For dinner, reservation is highly recommended unless you don't mind a long wait. We were lucky there's reservation available written we call over 3 hours prior for a Sat night. Peking duck was great. Quality of all the dishes were consistent. Nothing was disappointing. I did not give it a 4 star because we fell very rushed. The speed at which they serve was ridiculously fast. Within 45 min, the 8 dishes were delivered. We ran out of room and felt very cramped at a regular sized table of 6.
An excellent dining experience overall! We were allowed to call 20 minutes ahead of arrival and reserve a spot in line. Yes it was crazy busy but our wait was only 5 minutes and the service was on point and very attentive despite. Anata easy to flag down a server for tea refills a and fresh plates and bowls. Food was front and centre. Every dish was prepared to absolute perfection. Decor was elegant. One of our new favourite northern Chinese cuisine restaurants. Looking forward to our next visit already!
We aren't experts when it comes to Northern Chinese cuisine but the whole experience at this restaurant is memorable. Very clean, spacious, bright & beautiful dining experience. The staff are helpful with choosing menu items for newbies; you have to be a bit patient due to language barriers to communicate what you want/what they suggest, etc. We don't speak Mandarin and our order came out perfect. Portion to price ratio is reasonable. These flavours are not our personal preferences but we definitely appreciated the authenticity and experience of this restaurant, i.e. you can taste the care and cultural history in the dishes. Re the peking duck, the skin is light, crispy, and delicious - it's true we personally prefer Cantonese peking duck, but the Northern Chinese cook/flavours/preparation here is worth a try. Pig ear dish was yummy with a good amount of spicy heat. The hot pear drink is also highly recommended; was a nice treat and apparently good for health too :
Peking Duck always cooked to perfection! However please be reminded that this place charges for every little thing. For example the sauce that goes with the duck, if you want an extra one you need to pay. Lol
A total disappointment. Used to come here and really enjoyed the food. But now the whole experience here was upsetting. Service was one of the worst since the waitress ignored us and had an attitude. The food quality went way down and the $30 sweet and sour fish I wouldn’t even buy it for $10. There were still scales on the fish and the “two pounder fish” was only one pound. Food tasted really awful and did not taste anything like it used to. Maybe the chef changed because a lot of stuff on the menu also got cut and are no longer available. Overall a 1/5 experience; not coming back here.
I have to say this restaurant is poorly run. The main dining area was frigid cold where all patrons had to wear their jackets indoors to stay warm while eating dinner. The last time I encountered this experience was when I was in China and the ambient temperature was similar to that here. There was a constant draft and our table was at the other extreme of the entry I truly feel sorry for those sitting beside the doorway The food was meh. Got the duck and fish soup which 1 lacked any appeal of being presented with the duck and the slicing. 2 the flavors were muddled in both the duck and soup. Sometimes a little goes a long way and too much ruins the pure taste. PSA - If you have elders or young children, I would definitely avoid this as it is a health hazard to them. The food is also meh and fortunately for us in the 6ix, we have many other options to select from. Need to find out if there are any health regulations for York Region that requires a minimum dining room temperature for guests as this was getting to the point of eating outdoors with a camp fire during an arctic vortex would have been much more comfortable. Even the workers were wearing down jackets to keep warm!!!
Food here was phenomenal. Their specialty is the Peking duck and without a doubt, they executed the dish well.
The restaurant is well deserved their rating. The duck is good, but the wraps were all dried out. I recommend an authentic way to eat the duck skin is to dip it in sugar, but you have to ask the waiter to bring it to you, it doesn’t usually come with the duck. The lotus roots stuffed with glutinous isn’t bad. I probably will not go back again.
Peeking duck was very delicious and it was our first time trying bull frog and I have to admit it was very tasty. The ice cream cone fruit salad was super fresh but you have you order minimum 3.
Love the Peking duck here. They have 2 year membership card here for $20 and u get discounts every time you come.
