This is the most authentic Shanghai street food in Toronto, considering the price. You may find similar or above quality food in some fancy Shanghaiese restaurants, but the price is unaffordable too. So here I will give 5 star based on the food taste and the price.
The ox tongue and tripe rice plate is not good. Everything is beef and it is supposed to be slides thin, no tendon, also the egg is not marinated well. Tasteless. I won't recommend any rice plate from there.
Authentic shanghainese food that just misses the mark but good for a quick fix nonetheless. We ordered the xiao long bao and the pan fried pork buns. These items took around 15-20 min with 3 or 4 ppl ahead of us in line so be ready so be prepared to wait. The xiao long bao was BIG.. lots of soup inside but the skin was a little thicker than preferred. The taste was mild to moderate with a hint of sweetness. The pan fried pork buns were JUICY AND HOT so bite into these cautiously. Just like the xiao Long bao the skin was a bit thicker than preferred but the taste was flavorful with sesame seeds and green onion. The price was also not cheap; comparable to restaurants. Overall, good but not great.
Love their Xiao long Bao. They flavorful and super juicy. As well their salty soy milk is our favorite and go-to to orderFood: 4/5
Amazing food with great service, a must try. Food tasted superior to most Shanghainese restaurants I have tried in the past. As a native from Shanghai, everything tasted homemade and fresh, which made it even close to home since I can not go back due to the pandemic : You will see me going back for sure! I truly recommend!
Shanghai style cuisine. Try out two times before as good price and good food. Last week try one more time the pan fry meat bun get in trouble..... turn sour. may be hot weather in kitchen. beside food generally still able to eat. as price are resonally too. may try out one more time. but not now as I am still suffer from the horrific of pan fry meat bun....
I'm from Shanghai and was taken by surprise today. I didn't expect much since it's food court. I ordered salted duck and shanghai big dumpling and it was pretty authentic! dumpling tasted exactly how the little food stalls in Shanghai tasted. They do use MSG. But so does food stalls and cheap restaurant in China. I will come back with my parents to give some more review.
Good soup dumplings with lots of soup and filling inside. Came out hot after a short wait. Worth a try if you would like a quick dumpling meal.
It's a food court, what do you expect? They're not the cheapest, but like some other reviewers have commented, if you don't want to go to a sit down restaurant for Shanghainese food, this isn't too bad an option. There's one dish we particularly like that's unlike some of the dumplings you can get at some other places. It's 3-6 on the menu, the crispy ravioli - it's probably a bit on the greasier side, like many pan fried dumplings. But something about their filling, dumpling shell, and likely just cause it's pan fried and crispy, but they're fantastic! Nearly every time we go to this plaza, we pick up an order or two. $9 for 8 dumplings isn't exactly cheap either, but definitely something I'd recommend if you like a good crispy dumpling. For the sheer quality of food alone no ambiance or anything else, they get a 4. Owners are friendly, helps if you speak Mandarin, but you can get away with friendly foreigner pointing to menu items... it works. =
The owners are extremely nice! The food is amazing, best Shanghaiese food in Toronto!! Definitely recommend the smoked fish noodles, pan fried soup dumplings and rousong wrapped in scallion pancakes!
