Colleen who runs the food bank under the name of Cowichan Valley Basket Society is one of the Local Heroes. She and her support staff are under extreme pressure and performing admirably. I only wish I could rise to that level of commitment. It is simply a good place to go in and meet people although it might be scary to someone who has never gone into a soup kitchen, the people that are there are genuine. Go in between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and say hi or walk up to the counter and ask for a soup and sandwich. And then go across the street to the Cowichan Library or the Cowichan Aquatic Center and have your world explode.

Lots of free bread. Soup and sandwich 6 days per week. Often offers good salads and desserts. Friendly atmosphere
