Hudson's on First serves classically prepared modern French European cuisine using fresh local west coast ingredients. Award winning dining set in a beautifully restored 106 year old Heritage building showcasing their passion and expertise for the flavours of their surroundings. Hudson's on First is the life dream of Daniel and Andrea Hudson, grown from their passion for amazing food and brilliant service. Chef Daniel Hudson from England received formal training from Michelin Star chefs before making his home in the Cowichan Valley. From the selection of ingredients and the blend of flavours, to the artistry on the plate, his passion for food is evident in every detail.

Andrea Hudson is Vancouver Island raised. She is formally trained and educated in Hospitality Management. Andrea has travelled extensively developing her skills as a dining service expert. She is passonate about wine, food and the attention to detail. Andrea is thrilled to now be calling the Cowichan Valley her permanent home and to share her experience with every new guest.

Amazing. There's a reason this restaurant is highly rated by so many people. It's incredible. The ambiance, the service, and of course the food. The linguine is home made and light and the vegetables on top were perfect. The fish cakes were a perfect appetizer. And the lemon dessert? Oh, I'll be dreaming about having that again. The only thing that annoyed me about it was that I hadn't heard of this place before.

We went at a quiet time with a reservation. The restaurant was almost empty and yet we were sat at a small table very close to the only other table in use in the room. My extra chicken (which I think cost $9) was two pieces of deep fried drumsticks. Not what I’d expect at a fine dining restaurant. The broccoli cannoli was a grey flavourless mush. When I told the waitress that I didn’t enjoy the meal, her response was “why didn’t you tell me sooner? You could have ordered something else” in a snooty tone. I didn’t say anything because it took so long to get that meal and we didn’t have time to wait for something else to be cooked. Waitress did not come by during the meal to ask how it was. We had to pay the whole cost of the meal. Would not go there again

We've been three times, and each time we've left feeling like we had the value we paid for. The service is superb, great attention detail, delivered with warmth. The charcuterie and cheese plates make great appies for a group. I've tried fish, duck, and beef dishes, all perfectly prepared and presented. Ask for your coffee in a French press!
