Our history begins with the story behind our old saloon bar, which came from Butte, Montana. It originally stood in the St. Francis Saloon from 1890-1971, and is said to have been witness to many a quarrelsome card game, dancing cancan girls, and perhaps even a few gun fights in its day! The bar is constructed of solid oak and mahogany with handcarved accents, and still bears the original marks and woodstain.
In the 1970s, Whippletree Junction’s founder Randy Streit stumbled upon the bar, still standing proudly in the St. Francis Saloon in the deserted old copper mining town. He dismantled the bar and brought it home to Canada with him. In order to house his new acquisition, he sold a plot of land to Paul Watson with a promissory note requesting the buyer to build a structure specifically designed to accomodate the bar. Thus, the plans for Pioneer House came to life. A handsome piece of construction in its own right, the log-style building only serves to compliment the bar perfectly.
