Courtyard by Marriott St. John's Newfoundland

I had such a warm welcome at this Courtyard. I think Teri really left a positive impression on me from the moment I walked in even before checking my status level I felt very welcomed. As we were parking the reception team quickly got everything ready once back inside our room was ready with an upgrade with a fun view of the dockside port which was fascinating for us to watch the cranes unload the ships. It's one of the more unique room viewing experiences that I have had and not a view that I have seen from many other Marriott properties. I love how the lobby level is at the middle of hotel with floors above and below + the entry at base level. It's a unique building to stay in also and really adds to the feel of staying in Newfoundland something not felt while staying at the competing Delta or Sheraton. Parking was across the street from the lobby which was easy in and out.nnUnfortunately there seem to be some issues with applying the welcome 10 USD credit to myself +1 guest per day of stay so 13 CAD which may make for an uncomfortable stay for some Platinum & Titanium guests wishing to make full use of that benefit. It seems it could only be used in the pantry and not at the resto bar in the lobby. In the end we decided to eat out and just went with the welcome points instead to avoid complicating things as everything else about the stay was pleasant. Unfortunately the welcome points did not post either which I will follow up on with Marriott.

I made an online reservation for this hotel in March. I am from Newfoundland, came back to visit family. I decided to stay in St. John’s for one night. I booked this hotel for its location and great views. I reserved through hotels.com and reserved a Harbour View room with two queen beds. The quoted price when I reserved for my Harbour View room was $332.79.nnI received an email the day before my visit to check in which I did. The email did not verify my choice of room but just told me for a seamless check-in experience I could check in now and save time at the hotel. So I did!nnWhen I go to the hotel on Sunday, July 20th a nice lady was at the front desk. She brought up my booking and said she was sorry that I could not have my Harbour View room and that I would get a City View room. I asked why and she said there was some mixup in the system. I asked can I have the Harbour View she said they were sold out. I said ok for the one night the City View would be fine. She offered to ask her manager if I could have a complimentary breakfast for the mixup. I gave her my credit card and went to my room.nnUpon seeing the charge on my card when I settled into my room it showed $360 for the room. I thought it was odd that I paid more for the lesser view room than what I was quoted for the Harbour View room. After resting and getting ready to go out for the evening I decided to stop by the front desk to inquire about the charge. I was greeted by the same young lady who checked me in. She gave me my voucher for the complimentary breakfast. When I asked about the charge she looked into the system and said as I had booked on Expedia I booked on hotels.com the hotel could not guarantee the quote they provided. I told her I found it odd the City View room was more than the Harbour View room. My only recommendation was to contact hotels.com and ask for a refund for the difference between the quote and the actual charge.nnUpon checkout on Monday, July 21, I received an email from the hotel to confirm the checkout and charge to my card and the price on the invoice was the original price I was quoted of $332.79. But my Visa was charged $360. I know it’s not that much but it I was not charged the invoice price and for a lesser room than I originally reserved I don’t think I should have been charged higher.nnThis was a nice hotel. Great location. I got my Harbour View during my complimentary breakfast! But I am very disappointed in the experience that I received with regards to what I wanted in a room and what I got. Would I stay here again? Maybe! Just very disappointed with the explanation of the discrepancy in charges and what was offered!

Courtyard St. Johns NL is in a very convenient location right at the harbour. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Restaurant has good food with an amazing view. I’d definitely stay again.

Clean room, good service and friendly staff. Food is pretty good and well located. HOWEVER, if you have a room Harbour side, you'll be woken up at 8am by activities at the port that makes it near impossible to want to chill in your room.

Rooms are noise. Rooms 310-312 is below dining room so it can get noisy, and also in from of staff room very noise in morning. Also right by ship yard, when ships start to work in morning can also get noisy. Very basic rooms. NO TEA OR KETTLE. Unheard of. There are K cups for tea please add that to your selection.
