I went to this school around 2 - 3 years ago and now im in grade 8 going to Doctor Martha Cohen. This school was pretty good. Grade 2-4 wasn't the best years but grade 5 was really good. Some teachers were nice and understanding but some weren't really. When you did something good the teachers would actually compliment unlike other schools & the lunch supervision was really nice. My younger brother comes here now and I've realized that the school staff is slowly crumbling because their so desperate for staff but the original staff still stay on top. If we went back 3 years this would be a absolute great school to send your kids but now, you would rather send your kids to The New Brighton elementary school.
Get a bus service. The chaos that happens here in the morning and afternoon of parents driving their kids is a hazard. The exhaust from all the cars poisons me every morning. This school is not walking distance for children who live over 1k away. With low low temps no one will walk in that to get sick. It’s time for this school to include a free or complementary bus service. If that doesn’t change I will move my child to another school. It’s not worth the headache and anxiety each morning.
My kid went for grade 3,4, and 5. There was a male teacher who would avoid eye contact when parent/teacher interviews came around. Not sure if he was like that with the students, but it was sad to experience. One teacher gave out religious bookmarks at the end of grade 5. The only positive thing really was the music teacher and her dedication to the shows she put on through out the year. It was a nice new school inside, not sure how it is now.
This school is great and stuff but the office I had a FRICKING VIRUS IN MY BODY WHICH MADE ME WEAK CANT STAND UP OR MOVE AND I TRYED TO GO HOME AND ALL THEY SAID WAS “You’ll be fine they’re is only three hours oh school left” FINE? YOU THINK I WILL BE FINE I LITERALLY HAD TO BE WALKED TO MY CAR WITH MY MUSIC TEACHER IN GRADE FOUR THIS IS SO CRAPPY I CANT BELIVE THEY WOULD LET ME BE IN PAIN AND I HAD TO BE IN EMERGENCY AND COULDNT GO TO SCHOOL FOR A WEEK…
We have zero confidence in how this school is run. When my son first started Kindergarten a year or two after this school opened, I saw how they used the children to sweep up gravel in the spring during recess/lunch. They've told us that there is only one person who handles the outside maintenance for all of CBE schools, which is ridiculous. The sidewalks and cement play area is always icy and covered in gravel. They had to redo the grass in the yard twice, so the kids have gone two years without playing in the field! The playground was only installed this year and it's so compact that it's way too crowded when the children play.nnAs for the teaching, past years were okay but this year his teacher broke her leg and was gone for six weeks and was replaced with a substitute. Fine, but we missed parent/teacher conferences because of it and it was never rescheduled. Then we found out they were laying teachers off after Christmas, but when they changed their minds and kept he teachers our substitute never came back and was replaced with another substitute.nnThen we received report cards with grades that did not reflect how we felt our son had done in the past or should be doing this year and felt it was a result of too many teachers in such a short time who either do not know our son's progress or care enough to evaluate properly.nOther parents feel the same and have only recently been notified of aspects of learning their child needs to work on half way through the year!nnEven the office will not give parents an honest answer as to when the original teacher will be back and come across as hiding something.nIf my son didn't have to attend this school because we live in the area and there wasn't an issue of over crowding at this and other schools, we would move him somewhere else.
