It's been a while...but I have to say, Conte is still the best when it comes to old school Taylor St. Italian subs. Back in 2004 when I was still on the job, I was eating here about three days a week and driving in on Saturdays to pick up a 10 lb box of homemade Italian sausage which is fantastic !!! Anytime I had a party or a BBQ the number one question from family and friends was "Anthony, where did you get the Italian sausage?" And that just speaks for itself.
If you love sandwiches, then Conte di Savoia has to be on your list of places to go. It’s a small Italian grocery and deli that makes some of the best sandwiches in the city. My personal favorite is the Frank, which is toasted to perfection and so flavorful from its fresh cut meats, mozzarella, sun dried tomato, and fresh basil. Watching them hand slice all the meats is an experience by itself. Come try one of the best sandwiches in Chicago!
Let me start off with this: I’ve been to much better Italian grocers. Now that that’s out of the way, they still have most of what you need and it is a tremendous value. $6.50 for a 6” Frank with better and fresher ingredients than you’ll get at any chain joint. If I lived around the area, I would be here weekly. Staff is helpful and friendly. Sandwich line moves quick too!
The Contessa sandwich was absolutely delicious with huge mozz slices and prosciutto. Prices are amazing for the sandwich sizes, lots of choices, great meats! Store has a variety of Italian items and some seating. Can get packed at lunch.
Love this cozy spot. Deli, homemade soups, pasta and meats. Both Fresh and frozen pasta, delicious bakery items available. Friendly staff reasonable prices. Vegetarian options: Many Vegetarian options Kid-friendliness: High chairs available Parking: Meter parking Wheelchair accessibility: Entrance is accessible. Aisles are wide for accessibility.
Do you like sandwiches, and nondescript-boring dated Decor. This is the place for you. It’s an Italian deli-Grocery. Now having said that the sandwiches are are made to order and tasty. A small seating area .Lots of imported Italian grocery items. Pricing average.Food quality good.Service average.Parking on street metered expensive. AWARDED 1.5 YUMS ON A SCALE OF 3 Didn’t know about off street parking.A caring owners reply, plus I’m routine for the little guy businesses. Thanks ,raised rating .
My wife and I only bought a piece of their homemade tiramisu, but this definitely has the look, smell and atmosphere of an authentic Italian market. So many fresh and homemade products like sausage, pasta, various salads and cheeses, plus things like wine, cookies, gardiniera and even sandwiches made to order. I wish we’d come here for more things!
We have been going to Conti for 25 years. Their sub sandwiches are off the chart, and it's one of the few places I can find Italian imports. My only complaint is their cannolis. Not the taste of them but the quantity. The last 5 times I have purchased the cannolis, they are maybe 1/3 filled see pictures. I have called and complained several times, and today, I asked them to please make sure they were filled. They looked at me and giggled. When I served them tonight after dinner, I was again disappointed. To do the job correctly, maybe they should use a pastry bag instead of a spoon. Or maybe charge you a third of the price since that is what you are getting!
We often went here for grocery shopping every other weekend. They have a wide variety for ingredients that we looked for. I tried out their sandwich and it tasted delicious as always. Would recommend them to anyone who love italian food.
I've heard so many good things about this place. "Alex, try this place if you want a great sandwich! They have amazing food!" I went there today with my 13 year old daughter and too be honest I was not impressed with the service. My daughter and I were the only customers in the store and checking it out. Because apart from people talking good about this place. We also saw the episode on Chicago's Best on YouTube. And even that episode convinced me to go on the train from Elgin just to eat at this place. I mind you my daughter has Italian blood and she too was excited because it was her first time to Little Italy. To the owner of Conte Di Savoia please tell the late afternoon crew to be more friendly to the customers especially since it was just the two of us. And the young lady behind the register.... I don't know how old she is but even my 13 year old noticed her attitude. I strongly believe that the quality food you have should also reflect on the quality of employees that work there.
