Rose Mary
"Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, Rose Mary is Chef/Owner Joe Flamm’s debut restaurant inspired by his Italian heritage and the bold, bright flavors of Croatian cuisine. The boisterous space—named for Flamm’s grandmothers, Mary and Mary Rose, and the herb rosemary, which grows natively along the Italian and Croatian coastlines—offers a seasonal menu of rustic yet refined dishes that encapsulate what Flamm has coined “Adriatic drinking food”."

5/5 experience. This place runs like a well oiled machine. My wife and I came here for dinner and the meal was fantastic. We sat at the chef's corner and boy was that a great experience. Observing the kitchen from close up was interesting to say the least. The zucchini fritters, gnocchi and stuffed peppers were all some of the best food I've had in my life. All fantastic fantastic food.
Wow, probably one of my favorite restaurants in the city! Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious and you can tell each dish has complex and complimentary flavors that harmonize so well. I originally was skeptical about “simple” dishes like grilled asparagus, but wow was that full of unique flavors but definitely still not overpowering. We also received a complimentary order of grilled clams in spring onion butter. I’m usually not a fan of clams but I definitely helped myself to more than half of the plate… the green onions butter was such a flavorful unique addition to the clams like I wanted to lick every drop of that sauce… We also got the pork ribs and the duck - both were delicious, but I personally liked the ribs better. Service was also great - the server came by periodically to check on water and how we are doing. Will absolutely come back again!
We’ve been wanting to try Rose Mary for months and finally found a date and time. Was surprised to see how spacious the restaurant is. Thought it was going to be a smaller space. Once we sat down, we were immediately greeted by the busboy who filled our water bottle. He was very friendly and made sure our water glasses were always filled. They recommended 4-5 dishes for me and my wife so we ended up getting 2 veggies, pasta, seafood and a meat. I could go back and just try all the veggie dishes…they were so delicious. The lamb shank was average in our opinion…tasted good but nothing special about it. The other dishes are definitely worth repeating.
Amazing meal. One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Pasta was made perfectly. Bread was so tasty. Zucchini fritters were so good. Clams were great, wished they were warmer. Octopus had great consistency. Will definitely be back!
No other way to describe this experience other than EXQUISITE!! Table service is impeccable, wait staff is polite and on point. The foods BEYOND DELICIOUS!!! This is my second time dining here and I am already planning my next visit. I highly recommend ordering something you might not regularly think to order. EVERYTHING, and I do mean EVERYTHING I have had is delicious, beautifully plated and served fresh. Hands down, a fabulous place to eat!
Delicious experience - left overstuffed! The pork ribs were fabulous. I could drink the sauce! The Croatian red wine was some of the best wine I have ever tried. The chicken risotto was delicious and the baked clams were wonderful. The cocktails were ok, the Brussels sprouts came out at the end of the meal ?, and the sorbet was just ok. Our server was attentive and brought our a hand marked gluten free menu. Definitely worth a try, focus on the ribs and duck dishes and you won't be disappointed!
Pretty yummy food. The gnocchi was outstanding - I have no idea how they got the texture to be so light and airy. The sauce accompanying the gnocchi was also delicious. I also tried the zucchini fritters, squid ink risotto, rigatoni, and ribs. They were alright. Zucchini fritters reminded me of a really aggressive barbecue chip. Desserts were very sugary but yummy nonetheless.
Waited months for this reservation… was it worth it? Not really actually. Overall it was a lovely meal but nothing blew me away bar the fritters which were excellent. The steak was lovely by itself but those leeks were strange. The lamb ragu was good but Octopus was a very unpleasant dish. Overall a nice meal but I wouldn’t be rushing back.
Good mix of locally sourced well developed rotational menu items ranging from tantalizing fritters to well made seasoned pasta dishes accompanied with delicious mix of meat and seafood. The service is excellent and everything we had was spectacular. I particularly loved the oven fresh bread drizzled with olive oil and sea salt, clams, pepper pasta, Creekstone steak and the assortment of desserts.
Overall, a very good and well executed meal. The temperatures and flavors were all done at a high level, admittedly I just may have come in with slightly too high of expectations out of pure excitement. While everything was great, admittedly, I was just slightly underwhelmed and left expecting a bit more. The food was tasty, but it felt as though there was a little over simplification or “rustic” approach at times, specifically in regards to the coal roasted beets and charred cabbage that paired with the duck. There was nothing wrong with either from a technical standpoint as the duck was cooked beautifully and many of the pairings with the beets helped carry the dish, the cabbage just felt like a little bit of an afterthought and the beets didn’t provide that “coal roasted” taste you were hoping for and it could have really used some more of the ricotta to add some additional creaminess and flavor alike in my opinion. Ultimately, the duck just felt like a well cooked piece of duck and the beets a properly roasted beet salad, which given the price point and setting, you just were left wanting a little more flavor and creativity alike. The favorites on the other hand were the beef cheek gnocchi and the squid ink risotto. The gnocchi was pillowy and soft and the sauce was velvety and full of flavor. We would have loved just a little more beef cheek as it was light in that department for me personally. The squid ink risotto had the characteristic, stunning jet black hue and perfect consistency. Similar to the beef cheek, the flavor of the base/risotto itself was spot on, but did eat a bit bland and really could have benefited from some more grilled squid as the char from the fire in the squid paired perfectly with the risotto. Cocktail wise, again kind of a 50/50 experience. The Spirit Attraction is true to its name given it is very spirit forward. While I’ll never scoff at a stiff drink, it just didn’t deliver tremendously taste or flavor wise and drank like it’s description, a lot of alcohol. The Two Truths and a Lie on the other hand was fantastic and provided an aesthetically pleasing cocktail as well as a good level of flavor balanced well across all its ingredients.
