Eating in Chicago means eating well, and Publican Quality Meats elevates that to eating right. Shout out to Head Butcher Rob, your butcher's breakfast was eye-opening, and thanks for recommending it Leo. If I knew that is what you all get to eat for breakfast, I would've applied a long time ago! They've crafted a unique offering, with everything from in-house pasta sauces to tiny cans of whisky.
Posting specifically about the restaurant week menu: it’s BOMB. Highly suggest you go with at least one other person and you can both order the 2 different entrees mussels & pork belly- the pork belly is a little dry but once you mix it with everything on the plate it’s MUAH to die for. Great selection of beer and the Serrano ham for the appetizer melts in your mouth. I feel like a little kid with my review for the dessert but it was a sad portion to share between 2 people lol. I actually asked a waiter if another portion of dessert was coming out. All is served family style if you + others are getting the restaurant week menu. All and all the space is loud and fun and rambunctious - will return
Ordered Thanksgiving takeout from this place. Was missing a pie and follows their directions to email if asking any questions. I was refunded but no one got back to me and apologized for the inconvenience. Definitely left me with a weird feeling to spend hundreds of dollars and not even get a courtesy apology when they make a mistake. I understand the busyness for Thanksgiving, but it’d be easy to have a copy/paste, generic template of a reply to send out because I’m sure I’m not the only one whose order was messed up. It would take a few seconds to paste a template in a reply message and click send. Maybe have someone with some basic communication skills manage the emails in the future. The little things count, especially when making a first impression. The food was good - the brussel sprouts and bread were the most liked side dishes at my house. The turkey provided ended up being very flavorful and delicious. The ham was lovely as well. I do wish they’d had mac n cheese as an offering.
Have gotten the Thanksgiving turkey from here for as long as they’ve had them. This year I decided to try pre-made sides and pecan pie. The roux for the gravy was undercooked. Consequently, the gravy was thin and tasted like raw flour. The dressing was so wet it had to cook for an hour to get to some normal consistency instructions said 15 mins. The pecan pie had way too much clove and cinnamon and was incredibly over baked. Mashed potatoes were bland even after following directions for reheat. The sides and pie were $125. 2 stars for the taste of the dressing once cooked appropriately and the turkey is always fresh and delicious. Just be sure you cook it yourself.
We stopped here looking for some bread for dinner. The young man explained exactly how their bread was made. He did a great job explaining the process and his customer service was excellent! The bread and cookie we purchased was amazing! We will definitely be back!! Thank you!!
Everyone was so nice here. They really made me feel at home. They gave us a wine sample while we waited for our charcuterie house sampler!!! The set up was beautiful! I can't wait to eat it when I get home. I also got wine from France that they let me sample in the store.
Great food in a prime location. We went there for brunch and booked one of the outdoor tents for extra safety which was clean and comfortable. Everything was touchless including the payment. The food was on point, I loved the Delicata, Publican scramble and the chocolate coffee cake. We ended up ordering two additional coffee cakes to go. Would definitely recommend.
So good. Was there for a private event, so I can't speak to its normal operations and menu, but we had a wide variety of foods, starting with meats and cheeses, and ending with an baked apple- based dish and everything was just great. Thoughtful and inventive dishes with twists that elevated the traditional ingredients to an almost exotic level.
Vegans Beware, jk come in. Came across this place because because I could smell it from outside. That’s how you know a place is going to be good. The meat and cheese selections were amazing. The wine list could have been better, only reason it has 4 stars. If you’re looking for a real adventure, check out the bathrooms. Would definitely come here again.
I live in the area and have frequented Publican many times- never a bad experience. I decided to go to Publican Quality Meats for a pastry for the first time today and have never been so shocked by the dismissive attitude of the girl who was at the cash register. I had asked her a simple question in regards to where the pastries were made and in response, she gave such an unhelpful and dismissive answer. Not to mention the egregious look she gave me when i was asking questions. Not to mention the chocolate croissant was insanely stale. I thew it away after a bite. All in all, incredibly turned off by this shop. And hope that they better educate their workers.
