Really good mochi and baked tapioca pudding. We came on a weekday and all the flavours were still available : we tried the durian, purple yam, and mango mochi. All were really good. The mochi is so thin and so soft. The filling for all of them were really good. The black sesame tapioca pudding they will reheat it for you if you’re going to eat it there. My niece loved it even after finishing their mango pudding. Service was really good. They’ll review your order with you to make sure the total was calculated properly. I love the reusable take out bags that they provide too. Better than paper/plastic.
The mango mochi is amazing! Went there for the first time today and so glad we did! Definitely get there at the start of their opening hours; it seems like they have line ups all the time. And they sell out fast! CASH ONLY! I only found that out at the counter lol but they graciously let me order first and run out to grab cash. It was ready for pick up and payment as soon as I got back. Thank you so much for letting me do that!! A wonderful place!!
Hidden gem alert!! Absolute amazing asian desserts! The hours are a little bit odd so please pay attention to their hours of operation. The mochi fillings were fresh and delicious! Chunky pieces of fruit!! CASH ONLY! The entrance to the food court can seem hidden for first timers to this plaza.
Car's Desserts WHERE are they?: 8888 Odin Crescent 2270 Richmond BC A little out of the way but well worth it! But lots of great places are like that. It's like the signature of a Master's place! People will go and find them no matter what if they're good! Lots of parking. Park up stairs is better, unless you like the exercise. My pictures show the BLUE staircase that leads into the food court. If you don't see any blue metal staircase you're in the wrong area! Head in and they're in the left corner. Cash only! WHAT'S so fab about it?: Remember the movie Shaolin Soccer? The girl who was making the buns put her whole heart into her work... and later her tears... but the buns were perfectly tasty! And so ... Jacky the owner of Car's Desserts is a master dessert maker. " I myself am also a consumer. I want to put into what I myself also would expect in good quality food. I want people to enjoy it. The test is if my customers are happy then I'm on the right path." Jacky showed himself to be not only a master in satisfying the palate but also has fantastic customer service ! He gave us an extra box of 4 Mochis just because he didn't like the look of some of the Mochis that tipped over from a previous packer! That being said the lady who served us earlier has a super personality that poured into her excellent people skills. Probably Jacky's wife! He cares that much about his work ! As I said earlier What's the secret of making great desserts? His heart and soul goes into his work. He definitely knows how to feed the customer's body , soul and spirit! BREAK: Why the 'Car's ' in Car's Desserts Jacky? "Carmen is my wife's name and Carson is my son's name. " Ah I see ...CAR's Desserts. Super cool ! Resume..... His Mochis are very soft and also perfectly tasty. My Japanese friend ,who knows her food and is also a super dessert maker , said "It's not easy making very soft Mochis and Jacky's Mochis are definitely very high class in comparison to others made in Vancouver ." Very tasty indeed ! Make sure you bring some good Chinese Lychee tea with you to enjoy with these desserts...or HK style coffee or milk tea ! A lot of places that make Mochi or other 'Asian' type desserts make it look super attractive but they always end up as being overrated as far as quality goes. These are we got from Car's Desserts: Aromatic Durian Mochi Fresh Mango with cream Mochi Hawaiian Purple Yam Mochi Rich Chestnut Mochi Purple Yam Taro Sago Cream WHAT'S so fab about it 2: I love the 'Hong Kong street style' look of their place!! My Japanese friend Is goOoooing back and bringing this up to her friends...so don't miss out! You won't be disappointed!!
We came on a Sunday around 1pm. There were a couple of people in line but we got ours pretty fast. We got 2 mango mochis, a taro mochi and a purple sweet potato mochi. The best mochis were the purple sweet potato and taro mochi. They had a lot of flavour where as the mango tasted kind of faint. The mochis are really soft and not overly sweet. We also had the milk pudding. This was disappointing as it wasn't as smooth as I was anticipating. Good thing was that it wasn't overly sweet. We also had the baked sago lava flavour which was somewhat disappointing. The top was really crispy which I liked but the inside was overly watery and could have done with more egg yolk flavour. It just tasted like regular baked sago. Overall I would recommend getting the purple sweet potato mochi and the taro mochi. The prices are definitely on the higher side but worth trying once.
Amazing mochi and amazing people! We tried the mango mochi and the durian mochi, mango mochi was fantastic but the durian mochi was next level, of course you have to be a durian lover to enjoy it. I’m already dreaming about the next time I go back for the durian mochi. And the mochi skin is so delicate and soft and thin, definitely the best mochi I’ve ever had. We didn’t get to try anything else as we didn’t bring enough cash it’s cash only so make sure you bring cash, but we’ll be back for more! The lady working there on Saturday afternoon was awesome too.
Mochi is surprisingly great! with this price, they've used quality durian and fillings. Cash only! Chestnut and durian mochi was my favourite. The mango sago was so so.
The best mochi in town! Perfect texture : soft, moist and loads of fresh fillings ube and chestnut. They sell out fast so come early so you do not leave disappointed like me and was only able to try 2 of the 4 flavors. Will be back again and buying buckets!
We came this place by recommendation. This Hong Kong style dessert shop is really a hidden gem! I ordered a pack of mochi, and the next day, we drove to Richmond specially for another two packs of mochi! I also want to try all other deserts in the menu!
We ended up ordering four different flavours of Mochi available at the time Purple Rice, Mango, Chestnut and Durian. The highlights were the Mango and Durian flavours, for sure! The other two were quite underwhelming and lacked the flavour and texture we expected. Regardless, all of them were very gooey and sweet — A+ for the dough! We’ll be back to try some of the other things on the menu!
