I have nothing bad to say about this place. I enjoyed my first experience immensely. Great vibe in this little joint. The staff was super friendly, not just with me but as I watched everyone interact. My waitress recommended the Bao bun flight and I chose 4 delicious flavours from a ton of options. I had no idea really what kind of restaurant I had walked into but was pleasantly surprised by everything. I highly recommend trying Bao Down if you haven't made it in yet!
Safe to say I made a great choice when it was my turn to pick a restaurant to eat in. The restaurant is very vibrant and lively throughout the day, but it gets even busier at night. They have a lot of menu item and a lot of versatility as well, with dishes hailing from Hawaii, Korea, Japan, Western, and Filipino. We ordered quite a lot for food but they were all super delish that we had no problem taking it home. We got the loco moco, garlic fries, tuna tataki, tita's pork spring rolls and 4 different baos. The food tasted great and came in big servings that you can definitely share if you choose to. Service was great and fast, we got our food within 10-15mins and our server was super nice and friendly. If you're looking for a wallet-friendly bill, they have all-day Tuesday happy hour and also 3-5pm on Wed-Sun. A lot of their popular menu items and drinks are available for a discounted price. Highly recommended and I will be coming back soon and bringing others to try this place out for sure.
We were brainstorming on Sunday brunch place and we were glad we went to Bao Down. It is usually a very busy place but we went just a little bit after noon when it has just open its door for the day. Got seated at the patio, we brought up the online menu on our phones using the QR code at the table. We did not know that what we ordered would made such a filling and tastebud satisfying meals! The shrimp Ebi burrito was only $10. The tempura shrimp in the burrito was crispy and dipped in mayonnaise before it was wrapped in, giving it the attractive flavour you crave like when you have dynamite or dragon rolls at a sushi restaurant. The burrito does resemble sushi rolls. Lots of rice wrapped in to fill you up! The sisig chicken fly rice was very balanced carb, 2 proteins, & slaw in terms of nutrition as well as flavour. Not salty at all. A little in the sweet side, but that’s understandable for a Filipino dish. I love the soft steamed rice but some may think the rice is on the soft side. The Ms Impossible Bao has a jerky like piece of pork ? a some lettuce and 3 pieces of pickle. The meat jerky was emerged in mayonnaise which kept the loose lettuce and jerky in place. The amount of mayo seemed to be an overkill. Last but not least, the server was very attentive , timely and friendly . Will come back for sure.
Uber eats buy one and get one is tricksie stingy it's basically paying for one item but they split intl two containers people tempura cauliflower 2 for 1 on uber.Food: 2/5
Great food, place wasn't busy so the service didn't take long and we got our food quickly too. It's just a bit confusing their menu and two names for the restaurant, the menus are available in different hours that we need to ask first. We asked our waiter if the beer was a pint and he didn't seem to be sure but confirmed and when he brought it, wasn't. But in general it's a nice place and the food was great.
Overpriced and not an authentic experience. Had my birthday celebration at the location over the weekend and ordered the Boodle Fight Platter for a party of 12. Leading to the day, I made several calls to the restaurant to confirm details as no one called back which was concerning as I had invited a number of people. I did connect with the manager after my last attempt days before and what was described to me was not what we got unfortunately. They placed banana leaves on the table meant as place servings to add authenticity; however, we felt uncomfortable using as it did not appear fresh nor appealing. Instead, we opted for plates. Once the food arrived, we became concerned if we actually had enough. We ordered two platters meant to serve 12 but what we got actually seemed more fitting for a party of six or eight. It had mounds of rice that appeared to compensate for not having enough menu dishes. Both platters were way over priced given the scant items. More importantly, it was not inspiring because what was meant as an authentic Filipino dining experience became a basic buffet platter with minimal selections. It was fortunate that a couple of people did not make it because I was ready to order more if necessary. The meal also came with desserts consisting of beignets which were more bread and a couple of single sized custards that we all had to share. Ironically, we had leftover rice though not surprising. The restaurant comped us with single shots which under normal circumstances would have been great but given the dining experience, seemed more like an attempt to compensate for a mediocre experience. I suggest looking at other restaurants if one wants a more authentic and reasonable Boodle Fight experience.
Excellent customer service, meals are surprisingly generous and very tasty.. bring an appetite though, their evening specialties will fill you up quickly.. the delicious boa "appetizer" is filling, so beware. The main dishes are great too
Really great happy hour! We went with a red pitcher of sangria, which was boozy and refreshing. Nice selection of snacks but the standouts were: oysters, wings and baos. Love the breading on the wings and there's a variety of yummy flavours. I didn't like the tuna tataki much because it didn't taste fresh but the crust was good. The wok squid was more peppers/onions than squid but it was tasty enough. Service was fantastic!
I ordered their Miso Tofu Rice Bowl on Uber Eats and have never been so disappointed in a takeout meal. The bowl costs 15.50 each and is described as “tofu miso aioli, rice, slaw, sweet soy”. As you’ll see from the photos the “slaw” is just a few shredded pieces of carrot and purple cabbage with no seasoning, three pieces of unseasoned tofu that was soggy on the bottom, cold rice and ranch dipping sauce? The dish was awful and I feel like I was scammed.
Ordered the YVR bao via Uber Eats and received someone else’s left over instead. Cold and old fries with bitten wings and 2 used sauces containers Super nasty and disappointing Food: 1/5
