Athos Restaurant is the Capital District’s only restaurant devoted to serving Classic Greek Cuisine.

Voted “One of the 50 Best Greek Restaurants in America” by The National Herald, and winner of the OpenTable Diners’ Choice Award, Athos is the Capital Region’s only restaurant devoted to serving classic Greek cuisine in a casually elegant atmosphere.

Whether you relax in our mahogany paneled Taverna, enjoy the richness of our main dining room, or relax in our private Ithaka room, you will always experience extraordinary Greek Cuisine and the warmth of Greek hospitality-Philoxonia.

At Athos, we have created a menu featuring classic Greek dishes. Chef Harry, who has been featured in Gourmet magazine, and whose restaurant, Ithaka, in Manhattan has received an excellent rating with Zagat, uses recipes and techniques passed down from generations of Greek cooks and bakers.

Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately struck by the overwhelming atmosphere, especially as I caught sight of the wine cellar below through the glass flooring. This Greek establishment focuses primarily on serving meat dishes. The hummus and pita bread are absolute essentials and shouldn't be missed! My personal favorite, the grilled octopus, was impeccably prepared, achieving the perfect texture and tenderness. Pairing it with the salad was a delightful way to enhance the flavors. The lamb chops were incredibly delicious, reminiscent of eating a lollipop with their juicy tenderness. Of course, no visit to a Greek restaurant is complete without indulging in the lamb shank, slow-braised in red wine and served with pasta, which I thoroughly enjoyed. However, the special flamed cheese turned out to be a bit too salty for my taste. To add to the experience, my colleague's order of chicken chops encountered a mishap when they accidentally dropped the chicken on the floor and had to replace it with a chicken skewer instead. While the server assured us that he didn't take the initial order, I believe the restaurant should take ownership of such incidents rather than shifting blame to other staff members. Additionally, the service was rather slow, as I had to call multiple times for the wine to be served.
First time in Athos Restaurant and YOU have to go! A small, local restaurant that provides great service and food. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and makes great recommendations. The grilled octopus was exceptional, with excellent quality and taste. The ambiance is a welcoming and charming setting. They made us feel comfortable and provided us with an unforgettable experience.

Off-course for familiesnWe chose this restaurant for our anniversary me and my husband enjoyed each and everything we ordered, the servers were all friendly and attentive. They gave the complimentary dessert for us.nThank you for making our day some more special at the end. I love the desert
Athos for lunch!nStarted off with a delicious GF Pita bread with a lovely red pepper themed dip.nAppetizer was the calamari that can be done GF. Very delicious!nFor wine I got their house cab which paired incredibly well with the lamb! So Good!nEntree was the Lamb chops! To be honest this was my least favorite part of the meal even tho I thoroughly enjoyed it, the lamb chops were med-wellordered rare. The veg was def undercooked but the rice was just about right.nLeftovers were packed up for me and brought back in a bag which is nice.nOverall I would happily return! Next time I would go for the chicken souvlaki tho!
Athos Restaurant has undergone a remarkable transformation, making it a must-visit dining destination. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by Ali, the new owner, whose presence has clearly elevated the establishment. Ali's commitment to high-quality customer service was evident throughout our visit. He personally recommended dishes, which turned out to be exquisite, and patiently answered all our questions. The overall ambiance and attention to detail left a lasting impression. We will definitely be returning to Athos and highly recommend it to others seeking an exceptional dining experience.
