Made a day trip from Calgary to catch the Tom Thomson exhibit before it closed. It’s an incredible exhibition, so many paintings, well arranged, with a few different themes. It was really a treat to be able to see them all together. I’m glad I got a membership last year!
I decided to check out the Art Gallery of Alberta with the children after attending a phenomenal Symphony for Kids performance at the Winspear Centre. The entry cost is reasonable, and they offer a discount if you have a EPL membership. The building is very interesting to see for the first time. I'd hate to say it though, I think it is actually more interesting to look at than some of the galleries and art itself. I was also disappointed that there were absolutely no activities whatsoever for children, on a weekend no less. I recall going to the AGA when I was younger and there being many activities to do, and the galleries seemed more interesting to look at as well. Maybe I'm just seeing things differently with age, but my children didn't seem all that interested either. I'm fairly certain we were in and out within 45 minutes. The highlight for the kids was sticking their entry pass stickers to the light pole located outside the AGA. We'll definitely spend our money at more engaging venues in the future, such as TWOSE, RAM, Winspear Centre, Fort Edmonton, or even the Stanley A. Milner library.
I had the pleasure of working here at the Art Gallery for an evening event, and it was awesome! The people were great and so was the art!nnI’d never been to an Art Gallery before, and having my first time in one, getting to work an event was so much fun! I will definitely be back in my own free time in the future to check out more installations!nnPositive and welcoming atmosphere! Lots to see and learn / interpret
Very interesting exhibitions, a must do if you are visiting Edmonton. I do it each time and I am always surprised. The museum building is also beautiful.
Great fundraiser. Could have had just one more bar tender at each station. Saw many tickets just dropped bc it took too long. Items were intriguing and some fun items, but pricing was elevated to a point where it ceased to be affordable despite these should be donated items. We wanted to bid on many, but the value just was not there. Also, please state clearly that the food you were passing around on trays was vegan. It provides/warns those unaccompanied to their variety of texture/flavors to avoid waste. Otherwise, it is a very enjoyable event and I hope to go more prepared next year
