The Brent Store – Cedar Lake

Our most remote location is found on Cedar Lake, at the north end of Algonquin Park. Without phone service or electricity, the Algonquin Outfitters store in the historic village of Brent holds a certain backwoods character that you cannot find elsewhere. Although situated at the end of a 40 km (25 mile) gravel road, the Brent access point (#27) is the starting point for canoe routes journeying into more remote and less traveled regions of the park. It also offers the best access to the only area of Algonquin Park where walleye (yellow pickerel) are found.

Brent StoreAlgonquin Outfitters has been operating the Brent Store since 1982. Outfitting, canoe rentals and supplies for camping trips are all available at Brent. Advance reservations (minimum four weeks) are highly recommended for any rental or outfitting package. Customers familiar with the wide variety of services and products available at our Oxtongue Lake and Opeongo bases will find things a little different when they get to Brent. The store is stocked with grocery items like snacks, milk, frozen meat and bread along with a representative selection of freeze dried and dehydrated food. The outfitting department offers the same types of equipment as our other bases, but not in the same quantity. Fish tackle appropriate to the area is available.

We have purposely limited the amount of equipment available at Brent in order to help preserve some of the unique qualities of the base. Both complete and partial outfitting are available, but advance reservations should be made through our the Oxtongue Lake base at least four weeks ahead of your arrival date. There is no postal service to Brent and, believe it or not, no hydro or no telephone other than a satellite phone reserved for emergency use! Petawawa River trippers should note that ABS whitewater canoes are not available at Brent. We do have a good selection of these canoes at the Oxtongue Lake base.

We use to camp every year up here at Brent from 13 years old and up! The family run store was always amazing to speak with the guys and spend time with! Was always great walking there just for the ice cream bars! I remember those boys being under 10 and seeing them grow to their teens! I think on at least 6 boards hanging from the ceiling has my name on it! I’m sad that I haven’t been there now in over 7 years! It’s an amazing place, people and atmosphere ! If you ever are able to camp at this lake and be at this store, it’s worth it for a lifetime of memories! Much love, one of the Soikie’s girl!

I added some photos here and also wanted to say what great service Jake was back a few years ago in two seperate trips. It's always a pleasure to visit and speak with a legend such as Jake. The store has just about a bit of everything for sale! Brent has a special place in my heart and look forward to visiting once again in the near future.

We had an amazing first class service , from the first phone call to enquire about outfitting , to delivering our gear back , they couldn't do enough , we already have spoken about a longer trip next time , . Thank you we will recommend them to anyone who asks back home . As an outdoor professional it was great to see it all come together Franco and Jackie

I have been going to this store for years. It is in the middle of nowhere. My dad and grandfather used to go there camping when my dad was young. The service is excellent and they have just about everything you need. They rent everything from Canoe's to entire outfitting for tripping. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about the area, and serve you sometimes even if the place looks like it should be closed. The store runs on a generator, so there is the odd time when they are out of power. I definitely recommend this place as it has a lot of character and goes back many generations. If you get the chance when you are there, ask the store about Jerry, the old store owner. He used to live there all year around when the train was running. He had quite the character.
