Wellness Management
The mission of the Addiction Center of Broome County is to provide state-of-the-art outpatient treatment services to individuals, their families, and significant others suffering because of chemical dependency. We will provide treatment that is competent, ethical, and effective at the least possible cost. We will do this in cooperation with other service providers, and with local, state and federal government officials. Other services may be developed as a result of this cooperative planning process. Our services will be offered to all people who need them without regard to age, sex, HIV status, religion, creed, sexual orientation, or race. Our clients come to the clinic suffering from an illness and its devastating effects. They will be treated with utmost care, dignity and respect.
Healthy Parenting
Healthy Parenting is a 6 session open-ended group that meets once per week and follows a psycho-educational format. The group focuses on 3 areas: building trust, controlling anger, and setting limits and boundaries. This group may be helpful for parents or guardians, who may or may not have their children living with them. Healthy Parenting utilizes videos, handouts and booklets.
Creative Arts Therapy
Art Therapy is a 10 week open-ended group. In group we use drawing sometimes along with creative writing to help explore and process issues relating to recovery. You don’t have to be an artist! Enjoy the process and express yourself in a manner that feels comfortable to you.
Anger Management
Anger Management Group: In this group you will learn “fair fighting” rules in resolving conflicts. You will become aware of negative “self – talk” and how to change it. You will gain insight into your “anger style” and its consequences. Participants will recognize how certain thought processes can lead to inappropriate expressions of anger and learn strategies for effective anger management. This is a Therapy Group, there will be three films shown on Anger Management.
DBT: Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) was designed by Marsha Linehan, PhD for individuals who experience difficulty controlling their thoughts, confusion about their identity (who they want to be, their values/likes/dislikes/feelings), impulsivity, emotional instability (fast, intense mood changes that are difficult to control), and interpersonal problems (difficulties maintaining relationships). DBT was designed to focus and increase 4 skills areas: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
Relapse Prevention
Relapse Prevention combines several different topics with one common goal: learning how to prevent future relapses. Covering such topics as anger, resentments, relationships, shame, and overconfidence, this group presents a well-rounded look at the different things that help people in recovery stay in recovery. Getting clean and sober is an important first step; staying clean and sober by preventing relapse is just as important. This group provides the necessary tools to remain in recovery.
