Story

Victoria School of the Arts is a public school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada operated by Edmonton Public Schools, offering students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 an arts-focused education. Now known as Victoria School of the Arts, the school built at this location in 1911 was known as Edmonton High School. New buildings were constructed in 1949 which became known as Victoria Composite High School or "Vic Comp" for short. In 1985, Bob Maskell took over the position of school principal with the intention of transforming the school from a vocational school with a low enrollment and bad reputation to an arts-based alternative school. He sold off the vocational equipment to finance large-scale renovations, and recruited a staff qualified in a broad range of arts disciplines. Because of the work of Maskell, Victoria School of the Arts has become one of the top arts-focused schools in North America. The school is an International Baccalaureate school, and offers the IB program for grades K-12: one of the only schools in Canada to do so. As its main focus, there are five programs students may pursue at Victoria: Design and New Media, Visual Arts, Theatre, Dance, and Music. In addition to its academic and arts programs, Victoria School is known for its cheer teams. The 1994 Large Squad team won the Suzutan World Cheerleading Championships in Nagoya, Japan. Edmonton's Victoria School coed Cheer Team has won more than 200 cheerleading championship trophies, including 24 provincial and 25 city championships. The National Cheerleaders Association USA Summer Camp trophy was renamed from the All-American Award to the Top Team Award as a result of the Victoria coed Team's many wins.

Vic is overrated. They don't have anything there that another school can't offer you. Said they pride themselves on community, yet there was little events going on and the school is very clique-y. If you haven't been there since kindergarten, good luck making friends.nTheir productions are top-notch, though.
Caring teachers and staff, excellent arts programs and resources, lots of options to choose from. Especially for students looking to work in the arts, the learning experiences they have available here are impressive.nnNot the most competitive school sports-wise, but they do instill a lifelong love of physical activity and community through sport, with special attention to achieving your personal best.nnA few issues with bullying over the years, but they were dealt with quickly and fairly. Very inclusive, with opportunities for students to participate in and lead clubs at all levels, from elementary to high school.nnOverall, very glad to have this school in our neighbourhood.
I have went here for 7 years from kindergarten and loved it up until grade 4. I loved all my teachers in every grade but in a while things started to change and I was getting bullied and teachers were still always taking sides and to me that should not be ok. I still have friends but it was unsafe. We had threats and and multiple fights and vandalism in the washrooms and always had family’s complaining and canceling field trips just cause one or two families had a small problem. No disrespect to this school. Teachers were still nice and there is so many things to do. But when you see how kids are swearing by grade 3 or 4 just did not feel right to me I moved schools and I have heard 1 or 2 swears as with Vic I heard too many to count by the day . The school also is more focused on LGBT and taking it over school time by making it a thing we’re we learn about it starting at a young age. But I still love how many opportunities you can find at Vic.
spent a year here for my 12th grade, teachers are nice and they all seem really happy to teach and my grades were the highest they ever been, but school is insanely divided, if ur not able to associate urself with a clique, ur gonna have a hard time socializing. I wasn't artsy either and I did fine
Discrimination and unfair preferential placement is practiced by school administration and staff. They select only their friends and acquaintances. The reviewing of application is just a bullshit to show that the school is professional. Unethical practices and bribes are considered by school staff at Victoria school of art. Beware parents and guardians!
