I've been dancing here for years now and the place is pretty big, the coaches are nice and students are treated good. Don't listen to me because I've only gone to the school part a few times because my school went there to sing because I was in choir. It was nice.
I'm an extremely disappointed parent. I'm glad my child is no longer a Vimy Ridge student.
I hate to see so many trolls and negative reviews on here, vimy is by far one of the most professional and clean junior high schools in Edmonton. The teachers specifically Mr. Evans, Mr. Bisoon, Mr. whittingham, And Mr. Wilson are among the best teachers I have ever been taught by. One of the best schools ever and I was happy to be part of it for an amazing 3 years.
If you are looking for your child to move forward into college, university, olympic or professional sports in their future I do not see Vimy being a good choice for that. Our schools jr high girls volleyball team not Vimy just played in a McNally volleyball tournament against the Vimy girls and the Vimy coaches displayed the worst display of coaching and sportsmanship I have ever seen in my life. To be clear the Vimy jr high girls team is incredible ability wise and is likely the best volleyball tier 1 team in Edmonton by a long ways and definitely deserve credit for that. The Vimy team is full of high club level volleyball girls that are extremely skillful. Our team in contrast is a tier 3 school team with decently athletic girls from all different sports that made the volleyball team none of them play volleyball as their main sport. It was evidently clear in warm ups our girls were WAY out of their league playing the Vimy team . In our game against Vimy their coaches chose to put out their strongest server to drive our girls into the ground destroying them and at no point eased up. All the while the Vimy team girls laughed and mocked our girls team even openly reenacting what they felt was mistakes and poor plays made by our girls as they struggled to simply do their best. This obviously came down from the coaches and showed a huge lack of character or even respect for the sport from the entire Vimy team. The problem was by no means that Vimy won as it was very clear that they would win but rather HOW they won. Considering for 99% of the game all the Vimy girls other than the server just stood on the court and did nothing other than watch the server ace one serve after another you can see where they would get bored and fall into the bad behavior of the mocking and laughing that they did.nnWe actually had considered enrolling our daughter in Vimy last year as she is on the Alberta and Canadian national BMX race team and competes at the world level representing Canada for that. However upon advice from a couple of her coaches we decided not to completely specialize into BMX quite yet and rather have her continue to play indoor soccer and different school sports as well until she gets a little older. After what we experienced at the McNally tournament we are so thankful we did not enroll her at Vimy. Now maybe other sports within Vimy do not have the same problems as their volleyball program does but if they are even anywhere close it is definitely not a school we would want to be a part of as it would be of great detriment to be a part of that culture.nnThe lack of character Vimy intills in its athletes will cause great detriment to their athletic career and future opportunities. I played college baseball and my brother played WHL hockey. Throughout that time we both clearly saw and have discussed how although an athletes ability and skill topped the list of making the team a VERY close second is the character of the athlete. An athlete with poor character often creates someone that is not very coachable, both being things that coaches hate. Poor character creates a cancer on the team and locker room that high level coaches are just unwilling to put up with, so if you are not the Connor McDavid or Michael Jordan of the team then good luck making the team.nnOnce again to be completely clear skill wise the Vimy team was incredible. It's just unfortunate that the Vimy coaching staff doesn't understand that character development is as equally important.
We decided to try this school for grade 7… unfortunately for us it was a huge waste of money and not the best introduction to Junior High. The teachers for the most part seem nice enough but program can be very challenging and the kids can be as well as some come with HUGE heads egos plus with all of the money we paid there wasn’t even one fun day or field trip of any kind. Hopefully the next school for grade 8 is better.
