You know I have come across a lot of bike shops in this city. Many of them good Many of them bad. Owen who was my service adviser communicated with me throughout the pandemic With precision. I would recommend this bike shop to any person I Had one of the best experiences When I finally took my bike in I had a wheelset built and Replaced every single component that required and clearly stated what was needed and was not needed to be done. They now own my business and I would recommend the shop to any person. One of the best shops in the city in my opinion. Thanks Urbane cycle. My bike has never worked this good. The best customer service I have ever received at a bike shop. Extremely knowledgeable And they actually care that's what makes this shop one of the best.
My go to for all things bike related. I can’t express how amazing the staff are. They are extremely knowledgeable and really understand their products. From bike bells to the intricacies of how a frame is manufactured. The expertise doesn’t come at the expense of approachability. Super friendly staff who are excited for your next ride!
The worst experience I have ever had with a business of any kind. Really. After a ride from NYC to Toronto I wander into Urbane cool! A worker's co-op! and ask them to ship my bike back to LA. It takes them a few days to get me a price, by then I was back in LA and had no choice but to accept the $745 price. But they said they would box it well so it would not be harmed in transit. When the bike 6 weeks later gets to my bike shop in LA, they call immediately to tell me there are three large dents in the top tube. Urbane files a claim with the shipper, but it languishes for months. Finally, three and a half months later, the shipper denies the claim. No investigation of any kind I gave them the contact information for the mechanic who unboxed it. Urbane fails to take any responsibility they were, after all the people I was paying a good deal of money to get my bike home safely. Their only suggestion was I should tell Salsa that my bike was destroyed in a crash, and maybe they would give me a discount for a new frame. I, as a general rule, don't lie. Throughout the process, Urbane was mostly hostile, as if I was trying to rip them off. So I will have to spend about $1500 to replace the frame, after I paid $745 to have it destroyed. Just heartbreaking.
I bought my first bike in 8 years and decided to bring it to Urbane for servicing and I'm so glad I did. There were many complications with my bike, but the service team really helped me out to make sure in the end I left with the bike I wanted. They took extra care to make sure my bike would be suitable to carry my kid, this made a huge impact on me and in the end resulted in a life long customer. They truly go above and beyond, plus the staff wear masks! Thanks Eion & Sasha!
I have been a customer of Urbane Cyclist for a number of years for servicing of my tour bicycle and for purchasing items. I was so impressed during my recent visit when looking for a gravel bike or tour bicycle upgrade. If you are looking for a bicycle and you want a knowledgeable, detailed and scientific conversation when deciding on a bicycle to meet your needs, I recommend visiting Urbane Cyclist. Brenden’s attention to detail, his extensive knowledge and his timely follow -up was exceptional with absolutely no pressure to purchase. Bonus: its a worker co-op business.
Great selection. Staff are mostly helpful, but when I picked up a newly set up bike trailer I'd bought online by bike, the staff member helping me wouldn't lend me a wrench for two seconds so I could hitch it to my bike "we don't lend tools". With no other way to get the trailer home, I had to go buy a new wrench from Home Hardware next door and do it myself on the sidewalk. The whole ordeal made me feel weirdly burdensome and condescended to.
My partner and I have supported and been supported by! Urbane Cyclist since moving here five years ago. We've shopped around a number of times for location's sake but keep coming back. Their repair and sales teams are both incredibly helpful and friendly, and they've made sure to guide us through every possible option so we can make the most informed decisions. Twice, they have let us in for emergency tire repairs on the weekend with an hour of closing, most recently this past Friday when I picked up this bunny friend on the Hoskins bike path. I cannot recommend Urbane enough; they are the gold standard for cycle shops in Toronto.
The service department did an amazing job tuning up my bike. They found some issues with it that another shop had missed, and did a great job of explaining the issues and potential outcomes of leaving them unaddressed. Highly recommended!
UPDATE: The owner seems to think I wanted preferred treatment when I was offering feedback on an obvious bottleneck, not asking for a line skip. I had a great employee helping me - but they had no way to help figure out service timelines. Unfortunately this place suffers from the same problem as other "co-ops" in that everyone is an owner and no one wants to be a "worker" or there does not seem to be a "manager" to consider the overall customer experience. As with most of the negative comments here, mine also deals with service. I came in looking to buy and replace the pedals on my bike. The employees were helpful in finding the perfect parts but then the whole thing goes sideways when it comes to installing them. You are at the mercy of the "service line" as they only do walk ins. At this point, the line was 5 people long and there did not seem to be any way to get a sense of timing or where I would be in line. The staff were unable to give me a rough idea of when my bike might be ready, just that i would have to leave it and be stranded downtown without my only transport until they called me. I asked if I could make an appointment and return and they told me "we do not do that." Even though the counters are 5 feet apart, they seem incapable of giving you any predictability and adopt a "take it or leave it" approach to service that is common to co-ops. They kind of just stared at me waiting to just say "okay," without any real solutions so I just left. I ended up going 200m down the street to Pedalinx where it was a much better, and welcome experience with better prices. In and out in 15 minutes.
Got a deal on a demo bike for my dad. Great personalized service and committed staff. Their love of bicycles was obvious and that makes for a great experience. Excellent selection of accessories too
