Tattoo and Piercing Studio in The Byward Market/Ottawa. Providing quality tattoos and piercings since 1996. Our artists are Ian, Darin, and Sunil.

Story

Universal has been a fixture of Ottawa's tattooing and piercing industry for 20 years in the same Rideau Street location, 156 Rideau Street.

We use on site medical industry sterilization methods (autoclave/steam), new sterile disposable medical grade needles and sterile medical grade surgical steelpiercing jewellery. All our inks are hypoallergenic and of the highest quality. We are health board inspected and regulated.

We are able to create the ultimate tattoo of which you have always dreamed. We encourage all of our clients to bring in their own material, even if it is not a complete image, anyone of our talented artist are more than capable of making it the original design that you have always wanted.

We contribute the success of our business to outstandingservice, cleanliness, quality and client loyalty.

We are open 7 days a week, Monday to Saturday 10:00am to 10:00pm and Sunday noon to 6:00pm.

I was on Rideau St and looking for a walk in appt, which is very hard to come by. I was fortunate with my timing. Showing a general cell pic of my tattoo he went on to design and embellish from there. He added my Latin surrounding tattoo. I couldn't be happier! The artist played a hockey podcast in the back ground, love it! I zoned out totally playing a game on my phone. The pressure was even, no digs, colour even and spread well, and most important lines are sharp!. Very happy! Will be going back for tattoo correction on another older tattoo as well as my next forearm tats. Good job sir!Services: Custom tattoo lettering
I got my septum pierced at Universal Tattoo by Halley! My experience there was really great. The guy at the front desk was super nice and answered all my questions. The actual piercing was very quick and not super painful at all. I had told Halley beforehand that I’m prone to fainting and she made sure to get me lying down as soon as possible after she did the piercing. She offered me water and a cold cloth and waited with me until I felt ready to get up and walk around again. The piercing looks great and I am super happy with it. I definitely would recommend this place!Service: Septum piercing
Went in today for piercings with my friend, the guy Tim was very professional and quick. Would recommend. The only thing that I would change is make people pay afterwards to ensure a tip is given. No one tips when they pay before and doesn't have an idea of the service.... I didnt even remember to tip because of that. Now I feel bad!
Darin was my artist, he was fantastic from beginning to end. He’s an amazing artist and took my idea’s and designed me a beautiful tattoo for my dad. I love it! Everyone at the shop is so nice and welcoming and it a relaxing atmosphere. I will definitely be going back to get my other tattoos!
This is my third time getting a tattoo done at Universal and I did not leave disappointed! I came in with a friend for a walk in tattoo and everything was quick and easy. The guy at the front desk was informative, friendly and willing to answer questions. Darin did my tattoo for the second time and my experience was awesome. He’s a great artist and overall a chill dude, definitely recommend :

I was looking to do a walk in tattoo and they were able to get me an appointment shortly after. It was my very first tattoo but Darin made me feel very comfortable and talked with me throughout the session to help distract me! He did a very lovely job with my tattoo and will be looking forward to booking with him in the near future, service was amazing!
The staff at universal were welcoming, friendly, and very open to receiving and answering questions. It was a pleasure getting my tattoo done by Darin. Not only did he do an amazing job on my tattoo, but he even fixed one that I had previously, and made it even better than it already was. Universal is the place to go, Darin is a 10/10 tattoo artist, and someone I would highly recommend. :
2022-10-29: I went there for a very simple tattoo after seeing Darin's watercolor work on my friend. I booked the appointment a week in advance, paid a deposit to secure the appointment, took 5 minutes to finalize the design, and got the tattoo done in 20 minutes after sitting on the chair. This place may look sketchy, but I found it friendly and has no attitude, unlike many other snotty studios/so-called artists. I got exactly what I wanted with no hassles. My tattoo healed nicely with no issues.
Brian and Justin are the absolute best here. Got walk-in tattoos from each of them and they are both so welcoming and super comforting. Tim did my helix piercing and was so professional and quick! Will 100% come back here for all my future tattoos and piercings. 10/10!
