After being a member for well over a year without issue, my bank card was compromised and canceled by my bank. A replacement was issued. Within 3 days of that happening and before I could even know that the YMCA was trying to charge my monthly fee, I got a threatening letter in the mail from this supposedly Christian organization. I'm not talking about one asking for updated bank card info like you would get from any other organization that regularly charges your card (I have many and any that I missed in notifying of my new card simply contacted me asking for updated info without any further incident). I received a "You owe us overdue charges, penalties, and bank fees" from the Y. Truly the most unprofessional letter handled in an atrocious manner. OH, but it doesn't end there. I called not once, but twice! Only to be told that the only person who can update that info is out. I have since had a surgery and come home only to find yet another threatening letter.
I am canceling my membership and will never return. If you are a member, you'd best write the date your debit card expires on your calendar or expect penalties and fees as there is NO WAY to go in and update this info yourself. One day late means you owe. Period.
I hope they enjoy the $20 late fee and penalty. It ultimately cost them thousands in memberships they would have had from my family alone.

This is an excellent YMCA -- friendly people, good programs, a large and well-kept swimming pool and it serves a diverse population. Good facilities, including a new addition (several years ago) that features a great weight room -- it's open, bright, and non-intimidating. Located in the downtowm area.
