Polished building with an excellent, almost upscale looking makeshift washroom. Security and Covid procedures were good and well-managed. Theatre is a little small and acoustics could be better.
I think the closest thing to magic is to watch an orchestra director doing their jobs. A person with what seems to be a wand conjuring music out of amazing people playing their instruments is something I find magical . And what a place to watch all of this happen than the MAC. The acoustic, intimacy and visibility of this venue is perfect. Occasion: different kind of plan with friend or couple
Nice lovely place. But packing was an issue. If coming here for an event. It is advisable to take uber.
Attended Guy Manoukian concert. The Venue was spotless, the team was so polite guiding us to our seats. I wish they offered more snack options.
This theater is actually quite nice. It's really cool how the walls on every side are light panels that interact with the show as the performance goes on.
Very beautiful auditorium.. Looks really modern, very nice, clean and maintained really really well. In and out from the street and parking is really quick too. Great place for a decent sized event.. can easily accommodate approx 150-200 people.
Excellent show, great view from my spot up front, but the seat itself was absolutely atrocious. This presentation I went to was in the smaller, studio theatre of the Meridian Arts Centre, so I wasn't expecting the best, but it was shockingly bad. Any little bit of movement from people sitting in my row caused my chair to shake violently, as if a subway train was passing beneath my feet. It gets a 3 out of 5 on the comfort scale my aching sciatica!, but knocked down to a 2 for the ramshackle experience. Would be 1 but this venue has much better seating in its other theatres so I can't knock them too much.
I went for a play and the staff were nice. However, during the intermission there was only 1 staff attending to all that wanted to get a beverage...and with it only being 30mins, more than half of hr guests did not get anything....SUGGESTION: When you get confirmed numbers of the guests, schedule accordingly. The hallway carpet was severally stained with it looking like water marks. Very unacceptable. Knowing this, if I do attend a play or an event... I will make sure that I bring my own snacks, in case this review falls on persons with unhearing ears. The ushers allowed guests to travel the theater DURING scenes were live....what happened to theater etiquette??? What happened to setting a guest in-between scenes and announcing before the show starts to ensure all phones are off or in silent mode? To not move while the actors are in live mode?
The location and venue is top notch, but my -2 stars are because of the experience. Attended this past weekend December 3/22 for an early afternoon matinee special program. The performance was for a children's theatre arts group and families came from across the GTA to watch. Seating was general admission. Parents always want the best seats to be able to watch their kids perform, so the lineup began early...and so did the problems. The main doors remained closed, so people had to line up in a small corridor that was maybe 50 feet long. With 400 people, this caused significant crowding and confusion. Myself and another parent noticed this and began to get anxious about the safety of everyone, including the elderly guests, some of whom used walkers and canes. We decided to enter the main doors to speak with someone about controlling the crowding to ensure the safety while on the Centre's property. We walked in and approached the first staff person we saw. He was a much older man in his late 60's, early 70's with white hair and a spanish accent. We explained our concerns and how it was important that someone come out to ensure the safety of the crowd. His response: "It is not my problem how people line up." Shocked, we, again, tried to explain to him how this was a safety issue and that, in fact, it WAS his problem and the problem of the venue. He ignored us and kept looking away, rolling his eyes and giving off a self-important and arrogant attitude. We asked to speak to the Manager on duty, as we were clearly getting nowhere with this fool. He said that *he* was the manager. He told us his name three names and identified himself as the "Head Ticket Taker". We insisted on speaking with the Manager, and he simply walked away from us, toward the staircase, ignoring our requests. I'd mentioned the walkie talkie he had and how he should call for support. Ignored again. After five minutes of waiting, watching him just stand at the back of the building in front of the doors to the performance halls, he sauntered back, again, completely ignoring us, and proceeded to open the doors where everyone was waiting. We called out to him and he ignored us. Sure enough, people began to rush into the space and the crowd bunched up at the stairs where the tickets were to be scanned. Following that, a huge crowd gathered and pushed outside of the performance hall doors and it was a stampede of parents trying to get in to get good seats. I'm writing this lengthy review because these safety concerns are very real and proved to be legitimate. The venue should review security tape from that date to confirm my experience. As I explained to the Head Ticket Taker at the door, if someone gets hurt on the premises because of their negligence, it's a major liability. He ignored that too. This venue needs to ensure that they have rope lines for general admission in ALL of the waiting areas and that there is knowledgeable staff regulating the flow of traffic to ensure safety. A parent with a loud voice had to take over this responsibility and ensure that accessible seating was organized and that everyone was able to enter. In addition, the old Head Ticket Taker needs a serious talking-to about his attitude and offensive customer service and utter disregard of the accommodations required to ensure safety of paying guests.
I my Nuit Blanche experience. I will definitely revisit this Meridian Arts Centre for other performances. So convenient to TTC and lots of yummy place to munch before.
