I don’t think iv ever been disappointed by a pastry from To Live For. Absolutely phenomenal. If you go, you need to grab at least one cupcake & cream cheese cinnamon roll. The cake is moist, complex and flavourful & is paired wonderfully with various icing flavours that are just the right amount of sweetness!nnBetter yet, the coffee matches, if not surpasses, the quality of the pastries. My go to is a dirty chai, but if you’re a matcha lover I wouldn’t skip out on the raspberry matcha–it’s to die for pun intended. Really, you can’t go wrong with wha you buy here. It’s an all around great cafe with consistent quality.
BEST VEGAN CAFE IN VANCOUVER.nnAt a time when so many vegan businesses are either removing vegan from their business concept or just shutting down all together, To Live For seems to be thriving.nnI think it’s because they are just that good. Their products are high quality, the space though far from downtown it is worth the trek is beautiful and lively.nnOne of the last truly decent vegan croissants in Vancouver.nnSavoury options, while usually outshined by the cube croissants for me, are always delicious. I love the pizzas.nnThe coffee is great too. I’m not a big fan of elaborate drinks because I always feel like a black coffee goes best with a pastry, but that’s just me! Their pumpkin spice latte is great to be fair.nnMy friends have gotten cakes from here for various birthdays and it’s always been a good option too!nnHave been here with so many different people and they always love it, vegan or not.
The desserts here look absolutely fantastic! I came by hoping to try one of the cubed croissants as I've seen them allover social media.nnThe Bakery is beautifully lit and has a nice aesthetic. There's indoor and outdoor seating which means you can bring your pup by. The line can be long, but it moves fairly fast, but there's not much time to make up your mind when you're finally in view of the case. The staff are very friendly!nnWe tried the cinnamon bun and the chocolate almond croissant, as there were no cubes except everything bagel. Here's where the experience fell short for me. Although the cinnamon bun was soft and gooey, the spread on top was almost sour tasting and lacking the traditional cinnamon bun flavour cream cheese. The croissant was ok. I found the croissant itself to be hard and dry likely due to no butter. Though the almond extract was not overpowering, it tasted artificial. Good to try, but for me not worth the hype.nnWith that being said, I was not aware this was a vegan bakery prior to coming here. I am not vegan, and I value eating meat for a wide range of health reasons. I also value eating eggs, cheese, milk etc. So it's understandable that this is just not my jam. I'm also very conscious of ingredients used in vegan/gluten free food as they are typically filled with other chemicals like stabilizers and caking ingredients. But I understand some have allergies, sensitivities and political preferences for how they eat. To Live For provides options to those who cannot enjoy these treats elsewhere and whom eat based off their personal values.
I love to live for but I was bit disappointed. The breakfast croissant sandwich was really dry, but the croissant was soft which was nice. The carrot cake is the best thing, can’t complain. The cinnamon bun was so hard it cut up my mouth, I wish it was softer or warmed up! The drink was also nice. I’ve ordered carrot cake from here as well, sometime it’s moist but sometimes it’s crumbley. I feel the consistency isn’t always there but it has a lot of potential.
I love this place. I live in North Van and there isn't a single other food venue I visit more. There are so many reasons why.... I love that it is vegan, but I also love that you could take every type of person here and they will love the amazing pastries and food. I am more of a savory person, and there is always something outstanding to eat jalapeno croissant, breakfast sammy, cheddar scone to name a few.... Perhaps more importantly I love this place because I am supporting a local family, and while I don't personally know a single person there, I feel like I am a part of their community, and I feel like I am part of something bigger. My only complaint is I wish their was more room! I wish the TLF family nothing but success and I hope to see more of their cafes across GVRD.
