We have a long history of visiting this restaurant throughout the years, maybe once or twice a year. The food seems all homemade, and the presentation is top notch. The servers are always attentive, which is a nice bonus. Unfortunately though, the flavor seems to vary considerably. E.g., on this visit, the potatoes seemed to have an odd flavor, both the mashed and the boiled halves. And the pot roast gravy seemed odd. Hopefully it was just the odd hour of our visit, 3pm, and not a sign of overall style. It has a nice patio on the side with a nice shade cover for most of it. Parking: Ample parking, with overflow in the neighboring McDonald's restaurant with which they share parking.
The only breakfast I could ever want. Thruway Classic breakfast came with two eggs, twos toasts, 1 pancake, bacon and home fries. For only 11.50. Place has got character. Cute blue sky hand-painted ceiling mural. Sat on the covered part of the patio.
Really good food, fast service, friendly staff, big portions for the price. Would definitely go back to try another dish next time I'm in the area.
I will never return to the Thruway. I've been coming to the resturant for 4-5 years now, but sadly I've had enough. To start, the interior smells of urine and ammonia. Me and my friends could not enjoy our meal as the odor was insanely strong. At one point we got up and moved seats, but it made zero difference. Secondly, the food is abysmal. They've raised their prices a lot but the food is disgusting. My one friend ordered Italian Poutine out of curiosity and it was a soggy clump of tomato paste on day old french fries. Lasty, the servers are often times slow and forgetful. We had our one server forget about us for 25 minutes. Oftentimes they forget to even give me a drink I had asked for 30 minutes prior. Please avoid the Thruway. The resturant is just overpriced microwave food. There are plenty of other good options to pick from in the Carleton Place area!
Stopped here on a whim coming from Ottawa to Kingston. The service was great and the food was awesome. Lots of options and all surprisingly delicious. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good meal with a home cooked feel.
Came in hungry, the chicken parmigiana looked like it does in the pictures and tasted perfect. The sauce on the chicken and then the cheese melted on top was properly cooked. The chicken was cooked to perfection. No rubber chicken. The pasta was what you'd expect from pasta - the way it was supposed to taste. Highly recommend this restaurant. I just want to add that the staff was so accomodating with some additional requests.
On the road service technician here - Was going to stop at the McDonald's for a drive-thru breakfast but decided on getting a "greasy spoon" breakfast and thought this place would be what I was looking for but I was totally wrong. Very comfortable, very reasonable and very tasteful. Staff were incredible. Might definitely make this a regular stop for my out of town service calls.
Their ClubSandwich was loaded with butter... the lettuce was covered so was the bread... was hoping it was mayonnaise... nope... mouth full of butter . We had seen many reviews about the Club Sandwich but unfortunately it was no excitement. Mayonnaise came on the side so we had to put it on ourselves. Fake Cheese/CheeseSlice. Real Turkey and Ham. ↔ 2/10 Their fries and gravy are delicoius!! The fries were seasoned which was a nice surprise and the dark gravy was delicious. Fries were cooked well without asking for well done forgot. ↔ 9/10 Staff are very friendly. ↔ 10/10
Went at a quiet time so was not buzzing with atmosphere. Warm welcome, pleasant waitress. Turkey dinner was tasty as was the beef dinner. Frozen veg was cold, but waitress went and nuked it, no problem and all was good.Food: 4/5
When we couldn't get a seat at two popular restaurants in and near Carleton Place, there was a table available at this family restaurant. Had their pizza and a baclava for dessert and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. It took forever to get the server to pay our bill that we got up and went to the cash. It's a very busy place and I can see why. Will likely go again. Kid-friendliness: Well, it's a family restaurant and they serve milkshake.
