Candlelit and preserved with original ambiance from 1700's. We offer a seasonal menu inspired by New England traditional fare with international flavors.

Story

As you drive down pitch-black Route 41 in Sheffield, MA, you see the twinkling lights outside the venerable Stagecoach Tavern and you wonder if it’s a mirage. As you head toward the front door, you feel as if you’ve stepped onto a soundstage at MGM circa 1941, where they are shooting a movie set at a quintessential New England tavern. Your heart skips a beat when you walk inside, because this restaurant is cozy, quirky and authentic with a crackling wood-burning fireplace. Thankfully, the food is contemporary country cuisine and the chef uses local, organic ingredients whenever possible. One regular we know skips the entrees entirely and makes a meal of the sides.

Lots of history and lots of space indoors and out. We were outside and it was a perfect night. A nice limited menu which makes things easy. Appetizers were excellent, entrees were good. We started with mussels & frites and the beet salad... both delicious. Short Ribs entrees were a little dry, veggies were good. Black Bass entree was better.nnOutside tables are nicely spaced, screened in porch had potential and there were private dining rooms as well.nnI suspect the menu is seasonal, we're going back in the fall to find out and really put the fire pits to good use. Maybe even stay over at the lodge.nnA funky place that reminded us of Dream Away.
This is likely my favorite restaurant of all time. The atmosphere is unique, intimate, and comfortable yet upscale. It balances modern and historic beautifully. The brunch/lunch is delicious, particularly the french toast. We once asked how they make it and it was clear that so much care, effort, and expertise went into it and we had to stop listening because it was so complex! The mushroom asparagus bruschetta was also one of the best dishes I've had at any restaurant - perfectly balanced textures and complex tastes. Plus, the price is very fair.
Our meals duck confit and short ribs were superb and the golden beet app has an uncommon flavor that was really yummy! The staff were very accommodating to my food allergies and the the drinks were beautiful and expertly crafted! We enjoy our visits there every time!!
You simply must treat yourself to this historic, landmark, fine dining restaurant. It's a nice, relaxing 1 hr. drive from Albany. We thought the food, service and atmosphere were all top notch. My scallops were cooked to perfection.
Wonderful discovery, and we can't wait to go back. Creative and thoughtful menu with a local emphasis, and the cozy atmosphere couldn't have been better on a rainy evening. Thanks for the ad in the Berkshire Edge for leading us here.
