After a day at the boat show we needed dinner and we realized we hadn’t been here in years! My hubby had the Thai curry which he said was very good. The seasonings were perfect and portion was great too. I had the fish and chips and was super impressed. The batter was light and crispy and the fish cooked and moist. Our server was very good and we appreciated being in a venue where vaccine passports are still being checked. We’ve moved our boat out to Sidney and so we’re looking forward to coming back again!
This is the type of place I love to find anytime I'm near the ocean wherever I go. Guaranteed, you're always going to pay a little extra for the cute view, but it is worth it. In this case, I'd say... mostly. We were in a bit of a rush to catch a plane, which the server knew, and maybe it's an island time thing, but things were a little slow and another server dropped off the wrong meal. We also prepaid and tipped well. By the time time our server came around we were half done and had to head out. The server was, "we can't use the meal you ordered and didn't give you... so, would you like to box it up?" I guess I was hoping for something more like, "we really hope to see you back here given you travel here so much. Next time, a couple appies are on us." Aside from that, my meal was delicious what I was able to gobble down given that it took a little longer to get to even order. In short, great view, cool place, and our server was pretty flat and uninterested but our food was good.
Went here for lunch and it was very yummy! The customer service was excellent and they were very kid friendly, even offering a blanket for my near-napping child. We were very impressed and will go again when back in town!
Went to Sidney with parents and the husband. We wanted to get some refreshments and ended up at the Rumrunner Pub and Restaurant. It was about 3:30pm, so maybe not the busiest time, but their patio was mostly occupied. Things to note: Hand sanitation upon entry Ocean view is gorgeous Friendly service Food was good No dog allowed on premises Close to a parking lot I was happy to sanitize my hands upon being greeted and before being seated who knows what I've accidentally touched. With the sunny day, we were automatically led to the patio. We didn't bring the dog today we asked Sadie and she just didn't look enthusiastic about going out, so the no dog rule was no problem. Water was delivered just as we sat, as well as the menus. We just got some food to share, which was: Chicken tenders and fries Crab and Artichoke dip Calamari Drinknot pictured: Mango cream soda Chicken tenders were what I wanted and expected, fries crispy. Crab and Artichoke dip was good, came with bread and some nacho chips for dipping. Only thing I couldn't like was the chips ended up a little extra salty. The calamari was good, soft, tender, I liked the flavour. Just note the sauce for ours was the base where the calamari rested on, which might not be preferred by some. Finally, the cream soda was good ok, I don't recall my last cream soda so don't take my word for it, however I wasn't detecting much mango flavour. Overall food was alright- nothing that beckoned me to return for that item again, but it could be our menu choices. Food coming out to diners looked really good as well, so maybe it was just our decisions. Service was lovely, water was refilled when they had the chance without us even asking. The view is gorgeous, ambience is comfortable, I felt relaxed. Good experience overall.
We were told there’d be a 35 min wait for a table at the pub next door and lucky for us we kept walking and found the RumRunner. We hadn’t been asked for proof of vaccination for a while. Although everyone’s done with Covid, Covid is still not done with us so we felt this was a safe place to enjoy a beer and calamari before heading for the ferry. Service was friendly and our food arrived in good time to make our sailing. Great view of the marina and beyond from the glassed in dining area.
This is a great little pub tucked away in Sidney BC. The food was awesome, the view was incredible and the serve was outstanding. Our waitress Alice, was so good at her job. So friendly and genuinely happy to be of service. Can’t wait to go back
Had reservations that weren't honored at Surley Mermaid so we decidedly to eat here. This turned out to be a great stroke of luck for my wife and I. The food is way better here. The whole experience is a step up. For starters the view is amazing. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable. The cocktails and main and desert are top notch. Been all around this blue marble and would definitely put this place in my top ten. The steak in my fajitas mouthwatering. We will be back for sure. If in Sydney you must try here first. Had second meal here today and still very impressed with all aspects of a great restaurant.
Unfortunately, nothing good to say here. We visited for dinner a few days ago. Was dark out so we missed what we think would be the only positive the view. After a full day of walking around and with hungry bellies we were excited to visit as we had heard great things. We were seated and offered menus with no explanation of specials. There were three other tables so it wasn't busy. We ordered the crab and artichoke dip to start. Im known for scalding my mouth on this stuff. Had no worries as it only came out warm. We didn't want to send it back as we were starving. Turns out the people next to us had to send theirs back as it was cold. We both ordered the Striploin Steak Oscar their dinner special menu. My steak was just over 1/2"thick. It was seared nice on 1 side. Unfortunately, it was left cooking on that side to long so my thin steak was overcooked nearly all the way through. The other side didn't spend enough time on the grill to even brown leaving a thin strip medium rare. The topping of crab and bernaise was no where near being tasty. The crab was stringy and cold seemed previously frozen or out of a can. The bernaise was bland. It came with roast potatoes that had zero seasoning, they were dry and flavorless. IMO the only decent thing we're the vegatables that came with it. My partners meal was equally disappointing. As far as the service we had to ask for condiments, she never checked in on us, never offered a refill on drinks. The debit machine lowest tip offering is 20%. This is absurd. The machine was glitchy and ever time I tried to change the percentage to a lower one it went straight to the payment menu. Ended up tipping 20% even though the entire place didn't deserve 5%. An overall dissapointing experience and with so many other options in the area we will not be back.
First and last time there.. Greeted at door with hand sanitizer spray bottle asking to put hands and sprayed. What was in that bottle? Felt like water. Not gel. My salmon burger was good but the portion was small for the price. Did not feel satisfied when finished. Had to ask server for water. Definitely won't go back.
I'm a local and haven't been to the Rumrunner in a few years. We stopped in last Friday and the food was AWESOME! Outstanding service too. I highly recommend the halibut wrap if you like some spice in your dinner. Whatever the owner and staff are doing, keep doing it. It was a great atmosphere and we will be returning.
