We stayed 4 nights in the Rose Room at the Red Kettle Inn. The inn is conveniently located and within walking distance of the waterfront, main street with restaurants and shopping, and Watkins Glen State Park. It’s also positioned for visiting wineries around the lake. Accommodations are quaint and comfortable. Breakfast is different every day and is always a fun and delicious surprise. We enjoyed chatting with the other guests in the morning, too. Trudi, the innkeeper, is an absolute delight. So kind and helpful. We would highly recommend staying at the Red Kettle Inn to anyone who might be visiting Watkins Glen. If we make our way back there we would definitely book here again!
I had the pleasure of staying at the Red Kettle Inn for two nights to explore the beautiful Watkins Glen park and town, wineries, and Finger Lakes. Trudi, the owner, was responsive, warm and welcoming, and it was wonderful getting to know her during our stay. I loved her generous breakfast each day was different and something to look forward to and she prepared us a little "travel goody bag" on our way out. If you're looking for a decorative, charming, clean, and quaint place to stay, the Red Kettle Inn is it. Plus, its within walking distance to the main street great food and shopping, Seneca Lake, and the Watkins Glen State Park entrance is a 12 min walk .6 miles. Trudi said she had one or two bikes available to bike around town, but I wanted to get to know the area by foot. The inn had a wonderful vibe and it provided a much appreciated weekend escape from NYC. I would absolutely stay here again next time I'm in the area
Seneca Lake has many options for lodging but The Red Kettle Inn proved to be an outstanding choice for our weekend getaway, I could not have been happier with our experience. Many places in the area offer an impersonal room/bed for a similar rate, however the The Red Kettle Inn offers additional value, most notably because of the homemade breakfast by the owner/operator Trudi, and the personal touch with which she runs her business. Each morning the breakfast was fresh, unique, nutritious, and diverse in its offerings, it was a wonderful way to start our mornings and something we came to anticipate the night prior. Trudi is the new owner/operator and she was a joy of a host. The Inn itself is quiet and comfortable. It is definitely an authentic Bed and Breakfast experience. We shared breakfast with our fellow guests and overall that was positive and pleasant, but you should be prepared for that type of setting if you stay here. If you are looking for an intimate and peaceful environment during your Finger Lakes visit, I highly recommend staying at the Red Kettle Inn. From a more practical standpoint, the Inn is centrally located. We walked to town and the waterfront in minutes. The Inn is also a 10 minute walk to Watkins Glen State Park and the popular waterfall haven "Gorge Trail" walking will save you the $10 parking fee. The Inn was an ideal location for us to begin and retreat from our adventures. We also needed some items that we forgot to pack and were able to walk to the local Wal-Mart to acquire our missing supplies. It was convenient to be able to walk to all these locations as well as to have a private parking spot at the Inn.
What a wonderful experience!! Beautiful home with the perfect location. Trudi took really good care of us, with wonderful service and a delicious breakfast. And her cookies, wow! I can’t stop thinking about them. Would absolutely recommend staying here!
Stayed here for two nights. The host made a great breakfast every morning. She was accommodating with storing our bikes and we had some great conversations. The house is a well maintained victorian decor, lovely wood decor. Will definitely stay here again.Rooms: 5/5
Disclaimer, I am the daughter of the innkeeper, visiting Watkins Glen for the first time, so this review will cover the range of things my husband and I have been able to do over the course of a two week visit instead of a biased rave over my mom's inn though I will say there are ALWAYS fresh-baked cookies, brownies, scones etc available to guests. We LOVED sailing on the True Love! The guides were so knowledgeable about Seneca Lake and the history. The Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport was a fabulous choice for a hot day, and the variety of cool bikes, motorbikes, cars, boats, and planes were fascinating, plus an hour long movie. Great deal! We did a trail ride at the Painted Bar Stables in Burdett six minute drive, and it was so fun, with calm horses and calmer guides, a must-do! Oak Hill Bulk Foods is a Mennonite store not too far away with delicious cafe offerings. My husband swam every day at the lifeguarded public beach at Clute Park. We walked and shopped about everywhere in town and never needed to drive, every shop owner is so kind. We loved Wags to Riches which benefited the local humane society. The Seneca Harbor Station has DELICIOUS lobster Mac and cheese! And of course hiking the Glen is a MUST, and Trudi my mom often takes guests to different drop-off points depending on where they want to hike. You'll not stay anywhere in town with better home cooking. Mom has seven kids and knows how to make breakfast everyone will love, even if you say you don't like breakfast. She serves different delectables each day that she wakes up early to make, and each guest is sent on their way with a goodie bag packed with more yummies. If you're lucky enough to stay at the Red Kettle Inn, be sure to fully enjoy everything on offer and stuff your face with treats for me.
My wife and I went here for our anniversary in July, never having been to Watkins Glen before. Most of the recommended Hotels and B&Bs were either too expensive or booked. When we came across the Red Kettle Inn, it appeared to be under new ownership from the website, so that made us a little nervous; however, we were more than pleasantly surprised by the our total experience from booking to checking out. Cheryl the new owner did a great job being warming and welcome. Since this is her first year owning the property, she only had limited availability, but luckily what was available went with our desired dates. Cheryl did a great job with the breakfast plans and food, including bringing in some oranges from California from her property's tree to make fresh orange juice. She also was great with handing out pamphlets of some of the nearby restaurants and wineries, as well as game some great recommendations from personal experiences. Some of the rooms in the house need a little bit of TLC/work, but now that Cheryl will be full-time focused on the property in the Fall, she plans on renovating some of the rooms and amenities. The property is gorgeous and well-placed downtown, which allows for close walks to most of the local stores, sites, and the lake. We definitely recommend this property for those that are looking for a comfortable, family, and budget friendly experience.
Best long girls weekend ever and staying at The Red Kettle Inn was the icing on the cake! We were greeted with maple icing cupcakes-delish!! The house is absolutely beautiful, the beds were super comfy we stayed in the Green Room, and the love Cheryl has for the house shows in every corner with the decor! Breakfast was amazing each morning. We loved how she had a person for everything; the bread guy, the egg lady! She spoke about each one of them so dearly and everything she cooked was so delicious! There was plenty to do. We hiked, walked around the lake, and got massages all within walking distance! And the ride to the vineyards and horseback riding was a hop, skip, and a jump- great location the Inn! I can’t wait to plan my next visit and share with my family and friends the gem Cheryl has found in Watkins Glen! Thank you friend and all the best to you!
Cheryl is my friend for over 30 years and she had invited me to come summer, 2017 and share in her next life’s adventure - becoming an inn owner! Cheryl is a natural. She loves meeting new people and has a desire to make each guest feel at home and to have enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast - personally my favorite meal of the day! Cheryl loves Watkins Glen and will have wonderful suggestions and/or recommendations for things to do in the Finger Lakes. Especially since she will have probably tried it already! So depending if you are the type of guest that just likes to relax and hang about or if you like to rove around - I can assure you - you will enjoy your stay and will want to come back again - to a home away from home.
We had an amazing time at the Red Kettle Inn! Cheryl went above and beyond to accommodate our short weekend trip for my birthday. The house was immaculate and full of character and her breakfast was delicious! She was such a sweet host and we enjoyed getting to know her during our stay. We were glad we found her place and that she was available for our short weekend trip. Hope to be back again next year!
