Not too comfortable. Just a raggedy doggy smelling couch, no TV, and doggy smelling carpets. They put male and female up in bunk bed rooms and should keep them separate.

Such a great hostel! Clean, beautiful kitchen and bathrooms, and Ian had lots of suggestions for what to do and see around town. It's in a great location, too - literally right next to Watkins genn state park, a really good vegan ice cream shop, and an extensive bike trail that Ian recommended to us (great birdwatching!). Definitely worth the visit.

The Local is a great little hostel right on Watkins Glen's main drag, just a quick walk away from Watkins Glen State Park, Seneca Lake, or any other attraction in town. Our room featured three bunkbeds (6 beds total) and there appeared to be two more private rooms available as well. The hostel kitchen features a stove, refrigerator, and coffee machine (coffee included), as well as many pots, dishes, and cups. Three bathrooms are available, two with showers - one of which appears to be handicap-accessable. Other amenities include a well stocked bookshelf and area map in the lobby. The owners, Emily and Ian, were incredibly friendly, and only stopped in to freshen up the place or check guests in (check-in by appointment only!). This meant we were largely left to ourselves, which was nice, but they also made themselves available by phone in case of any questions. The only drawback to being centrally located the apparent late-night activity the town has. Passing vehicles seemed loud and were prone to waking this particular light sleeper up. Overall, The Local was a great affordable low-frills place to stay - just what we were looking for. I hope to have an opportunity to stay with them again in the future!
