This has been our favorite restaurant in Kimberley since we have been coming here for the past 16 years. The service is always good and the schnitzel is to die for! You can’t go wrong eating here, but book your reservation as far in advance as you can, it fills up! Tonight I tried their Bohemian Old Fashioned made with locally distilled rye whiskey. It was fabulous!
Honestly, I wish I took more pictures, to show how wonderful the food looked. While the presentation was wonderful, the taste was absolutely amazing. There's a reason that several locals recommended this restaurant. This is the kind of place where you must sit down, be patient, and enjoy your food, without a server pushing you along to get out. They have a sign that says "plan on your dining experience lasting 2-hours, our reservation system requires it" The staff was fantastic, and helpful, as we had someone in the group that hadn't eaten Good German food before. We ordered alot of food for 3-people, after a long day of skiing without stopping for lunch, and every bite was Enjoyable. Our favorites in order: 1. Puréed Chanterelle Mushroom Soup Seasonal Special - Garnished with Olive Oil & Sour Cream Made with housemade chicken stock-not vegetarian - nobody else wanted soup but my friends ended up cleaning the bowl with the fresh housemade breads 1.1. Housemade Sausages - THE Spicy Pork-seared pork sausage was truly amazing and had flavor that lingered and questions the palette in ways food never does. Our table ordered all 3 housemade sausages and liked this the best. 2. Elk Geschnetzeltes Seasonal Special - Seared Medallions of Elk Green Peppercorn & Dried Blueberry Sauce Spätzle Vegetables 3. Veal Wienerschnitzel Thinly pounded & breaded schnitzel, cooked in butter Pan-fried potatoes & vegetables Add the side of mushroom sauce 4. Schnitzel Munich - 5 oz unbreaded pork schnitzel, floured & seared Poached pear, brie cheese & pear jus Potato Rosti & Vegetables 5. Housemade Sausages 5.1 - Weisswurst-poached veal sausage 5.2 - Bratwurst-seared pork sausage 6. Vanilla Bean Pot de Creme Served with berry compote Garnished with whipped cream Choice was between This and Apple Streudel, would have gotten the Streudel but it had raisins in it. The Vanilla Bean Pot de Creme like a pudding but better was the perfect way to finish a wonderful meal, without being a heavy dessert. Will definitely be back next winter, when we visit Kimberley, BC. Wonderful
Anyone who rates this place less than a 5 simply lacks intelligence and cannot be made happy by anyone at anytime. I would not want to meet such a person. This place is a gem. We stopped in on our honeymoon and were lucky enough to get a reservation. They book solid, so plan early. The best food you will ever have delivered by the most friendly and upbeat staff in the service industry. In a old building shipped overseas, the experience can't be topped. #1 Stop on our BC tour. So lucky we found this place. Thank you to everyone here for making our trip!
The whole experience of this restaurant was not good. Getting a reservation was a pain, waited almost two weeks to get a call back, to confirm a time slot. You only have two hours in the restaurant and you are constantly being reminded that you only have so much time left and you have to order now if you want this or that. The food itself is good but not great, if the overall dine in experience were better I would say this place is worth going to again. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case here.
Went for my dad's 69th Birthday, the service was really not great, 30 minutes before we got to order drinks and another 20 minutes for them to get to table, another hour hour before the food finally showed up. Don't order a Jaeger Schnitzel because you'll get a few scraps of unbreaded pork mixed 50/50 with mushrooms sliced up in mushroom soup on your plate. I ordered Schnitzel and the server did not clarify they don't actually sell that and brought me the above. Should of ordered the hunter Schnitzel with mushroom sauce on the side. Also no Birthday desert for the birthday boy, nothing to make him feel special on his birthday. They automatically charge a 18% tip so it seems they don't need to actually put in any effort because we have to tip a large amount anyway. This is definitely not the Old Bauernhaus that Tony and Ingrid started back in the 90s. On the bright side the bread they brought out was excellent. The rest not so much. It really isn't hard to refill your guests drinks when you see them sitting empty at the table for an hour. Sadly we won't be back.
The food was absolutely delicious! We had the large platter which gives you a sample of just about everything in the menu. Highly recommend this place, but make sure to make reservations in advance, they are quite busy during dinner time.
My friend and MC Hammer said it best.. “Too legit to quit”. Hands down the best place to eat in Kimberley. The front of the house staff was awesome, friendly and quick. If you can’t decide on what to order get the Bavarian Feast 2 or more people. It comes with a large sample of their menu and is a fantastic value. For desert, get anything with their homemade ice cream. You can tell it was made with real cream and the flavours are to die for. I would recommend making reservations if you are in town and parking at the front is a little small but you can park on the street.
We had our team from the marysville pub go and have the best night ever! Great service lots of laughs and such a great meal thank you for everything
It is the only German food restaurant left in this Bavarian village. Long wait without a reservation. Nice atmosphere. Nice waitress. Great food. Loved the shared fest.
A wonderful dinner experience for our family of four with a cozy and quaint atmosphere and amazing authentic german food. Set aside an hour or two. You must call ahead for a reservation and it seems to fill up quickly!
