A historic railroad hotel built in 1905, The Lyle Hotel, was instrumental in the construction of the SP & S Railway and developing industrial commerce and tourism in the Columbia River Gorge. Hosting industrialists, managers, workers and tourists the hotel has always been a gathering place of community and visitors. Lyle, Washington with its ferry boat landing and railway moving wool, wheat and other exports to Portland bustled with business and tourism from 1905 through the early 1970’s when dam building was completed. Lyle in 1941 even had its very own airport.
