The Citadel Theatre

Story

The Citadel Theatre is the major venue for theatre arts in the city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, located in the Downtown Core on Churchill Square.HistoryIt began in a former Salvation Army Citadel bought by Joseph H. Shoctor, James L. Martin, Ralph B. MacMillan, and Sandy Mactaggart. The theatre's first production to be performed was Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. The theatre was founded on October 12, 1965 with its first opening night on November 10, 1965. In its current location The Citadel has the distinction of being the only venue where the Jule Styne musical Pieces of Eight has been produced. The organization moved to its current building just off Churchill Square in 1976. Architect Barton Myers designed the structure. The building houses the Maclab, Shoctor and Club Theatres (formally the Rice), Zeidler Hall (the home of Rapid Fire Theatre), the Tucker Amphitheatre, and the Foote Theatre School. The Maclab and Tucker are part of the Lee Pavilion, a luscious greenscape right in the middle of Edmonton.Artistic DirectorsJohn Hulburt Robert Glenn Sean Mulcahy John Neville Peter Coe Joseph H. Sorry, can't support a place like this that shuns well renowned speakers simply because they don't agree with their politics.
Awesome atmosphere. Have been here quite a bit. Will keep going back for more :
First time ever at this theater and it was a great experience! I really enjoyed As You Like It. Can't wait to experience another play!
Great facility, sound quality is great and all seats are good. The plays they bring in are usually great quality. Not all of them work for me. I like shows that are entertaining rather than soul searching. They offer a variety of options for people within the community to get engaged. Well worth checking out.
Amazing place to see performances and to perform at. There are 5 great theatres in the building. I’m currently a student at the Foote Theatre School here. The Citadel Theatre is definitely my happy place!!
I love this place coz of the environment and activities!
I've loved the citadel since I was young and I STILL love it. There isn't a bad seat in the house and plays are always a memorable experience. I've been a season pass holder for 5 years a Christmas Carol is tradition!! and would never give that up. Bring back Mama Mia!!
