Te'kela

Got a groupon knowing I was going to be in the area and was very pleasantly surprised! The outside of the building is very unassuming and I didn’t know quite what to think going in. It’s very nice inside, great atmosphere and decorated very tastefully. It was very clean, the service was excellent and most importantly the food was WONDERFUL. We ordered six different tacos and each one was more delicious than the previous. Will definitely be going here more frequently as I miss the good Mexican food from California. Tacos were very reasonably priced as well for the quality, $2.75 per.

Their unique taco options, which diverge from the standard Mexican cuisine are actually some of the best things they offer. I think it’s great that they have that spirit of fun and exploration on their menu. I regret that I can’t remember exactly what their southern taco was called, but it was breaded chicken with jalapeño gravy and corn salsa was legit delicious and enjoyable well beyond a curiosity. Replicating it is now our thanksgiving plan at home. The Apple cider martini didn’t work for me quite as well. It felt kind of like a drink I would make at home if I was desperate for a mixer. Apparently it’s quite popular, so your mileage on that may vary.

Te'kela itself is a great place to go. The food was excellent (and if you like salsa you'll be in for a treat. The regular salsa is mild to medium and has the tasty mix of ingredients, although too chunky for my tastes. They also have a hot, hot salsa with wonderful flavor --not just heat-- that you have to ask for specifically. Lovely!) Oh, and the chips came out fresh and warm! As far as seating, they have a bar area if you like that, a booth/table area that was nice and a large, open room with tables that can accommodate massive groups of revelers. Ok, not massive. But they can at times sound massive -- and they did when we where there. At times, it was hard to converse with people right across the table from us. My father (who was next to me) said he couldn't follow most of the conversation. This is not the fault of the restaurant, but but it gives me pause when concidering whether or not to return if there's a chance we might be seated in the same area. On the other hand, this place is ALWAYS crowded, so there must be a lot of people who go for that kind of thing. We would definitely go back if we could have a quiet enjoyable meal. We probably will try again.

Good but short happy hour. 3 PM - 5:30 PM. All appetizers and alcohol 1/2 price. You can order your entree without rice and beans if you choose. The food was good and prices very reasonable.

Have enjoyed this restaurant for several years with great food and excellent service. Unfortunately recently our service had become consistently slow. We often observe servers gathered together talking while we sit waiting for more drinks or other needs. Hope to see a return to the great service we had in the past.
