My family of adults and children spent Easter weekend at Sweet haven. The owner is super friendly and accommodating. We were thrilled with the location, especially because there is a huge area for the children to play, including a climbing structure. They also provide bicycles and a corn hole toss game along with beach chairs. The house itself was very clean and roomy. Because it is off the road and secluded, the children were very safe wandering the property. If you want a family getaway to reconnect away from screen time, I suggest you give Sweet haven a call.
My wife and I booked a cabin at Sweethaven Resort for a week in late August. We could not have been more pleased. The resort is distributed across a large, heavily wooded area. The cabins are well built and nicely spread out providing some privacy. We rented a two bedroom cabin. Both bedrooms were nicely sized, plus a large living room with a fold out couch, and well equipped kitchen. The cabin also featured robust air conditioning, a screened in back porch with a hot tub, and a Weber kettle grill off the front porch. This year we vacationed without our grandkids but there was a large common play area in the middle area of the resort with toys and a large climbing structure. A Lake Michigan public beach is a very short drive down the road. Importantly to us, the resort is dog friendly.nnThe owners are very friendly and helpful and obviously take pride in their business. I believe they have run Sweethaven in excess of 30 years if I am not mistaken. During the week we were there, a strong storm passed through one evening toppling some trees and blocking the resort exit. They cleared the blockage in a couple hours. Very impressive given the size of the trees. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return. It was an enjoyable week in all respects.
If you want a quiet retreat away from the world, that is conveniently located near several local grocery stores and markets, with family friendly and couple friendly activities both to do in the resort itself and the outlying areas this is the spot.nnI believe the man I dealt with was the owner and he was absolutely wonderful. Our cabin was the Dove and it didn’t disappoint, all the appliances worked as they should, the space was clean and smelled clean when we arrived, there was space for one car parking with I’m assuming extra parking available elsewhere, they provide you with pretty much everything you need, if you are trying to be cost conscious bring or purchase your food saving things if you cook, we forgot tinfoil/plastic wrap/ leftover containers. The outdoor patio with hot tub was the game changer for us, it was nice during our visit so we stayed outside in that area being chimneys our stay, it’s a perfect little hidden gem and it’s great for a romantic time with your person, speaking in that: bring fragrance spray for the potty cause that’s another thing they don’t supply
We have been staying at Sweet Haven Resort For about 30 years. Total old school camp vibe. Our kids grew up coming to Sweet Haven, we’ve even had birthday parties there. We found the place years ago because they allowed dogs and at that time, nobody really allowed dogs. The cabins are delightful, they are rustic, quaint and quirky. It is a beautiful piece of property and the hosts Chuck and Liz are amazing. They have bikes, beach, umbrellas, and chairs that you can borrow. Some cabins have hot tubs. There’s a nice fire pit for s’mores and the kids love the jungle gym and swings. There’s also some hidden trails at the back of the property and they’re absolutely beautiful covered with an emerald green moss carpet. Sweet Haven is right off of 94, is far enough away from New Buffalo that you don’t get the New Buffalo crowds, there’s a bakery, a gelato place and a little grocery store that also has good coffee and breakfast sandwiches nearby. We like to go to Three Oaks and Sawyer too. Head to Warren Dunes Beach it’s a lot less of a hassle than the New Buffalo Beach. The Union Pier beach can be iffy sometimes because there’s really not that much space with all the private beaches north and south. Warren Dunes does have a dog beach and it is amazing, there is a lot of pups there.
Highly recommend for a quiet, relaxing stay. The owners are great. Would rate 10 stars if I could
