We had a awesome experience here for my wife’s birthday! Very nice atmosphere, great for a date night or out with friends. Excellent service- servers/staff were all incredibly friendly and chill. Happy hour even on the weekends! The cocktails were all very good. The food was on point- the popover and beef dishes were two favorites. Only two knocks were maybe that the next dish almost seemed to come out a little too fast not necessarily a bad thing, but too fast for us, and a couple of the dishes had a little too much bitterness going on for our taste the gnocchi and the compote with the cheesecake. But Sur Lie should be at the top of your list for places to try in Portland, especially if you like the tapas format!
The setting was nice. Very pretty interior design and lighting. Most of the dishes had very interesting flavors. However, some of the food was overly salted. The lobster popover was disappointing in the ratio of lobster to puff pastry .... The biggest downside is that the plate is just barely large enough to be a whole meal, but it should. I'm not sure the tapas really works when you're mixing such heavy meals like the ribs, pork, chicken and fish. It works better for the vegetable dishes. Personally i would have like to have chosen just one appetizer and one main course and then shared with my friends if we wanted to.
Incredible experience, extremely well versed staff. Food was incredible and well priced for a tapas style restaurant. Had several cocktails throughout the table and they were all incredible. 3 dishes per person for 3 people and several cocktails under $300 and walking away very full. Kitchen is open to dining area and it was amazing to watch them work, ran into one of the chefs George outside as we were leaving and he was very pleasant and excited to hear how much we enjoyed it. Definitely a gem in the city and highly recommend!
This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in years. The tapas menu is incredible and everything is so well balanced and tasty. Mike was bartending that night and his cocktails were so good. Lots of savory components to the drinks that paired so well with the food. As a celiac, I was so happy to have a gluten free safe meal that was so good. I will happily be back.
Our bachelorette party had a wonderful experience at Sur Lie! The food was absolutely delicious and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating to the dietary needs/allergies of our party. The bartender, Travis, went above and beyond making us speciality shots. The drinks were beautiful!
Went with a group of five and shared just about everything on the menu. Everything was nicely presented and it came out at a nice pace. Pretty diverse menu of small plates with maybe 2 or 3 being the equivalent to a full meal. It was a nice place for a business dinner but would also be a great date spot. Great flavor all around and well executed.
The food was amazing. The staff was great but we bought five things off of the menu and neither me or my fiancé we’re satisfied with the amount of food. We are not big people but we definitely had to go somewhere else after the bill was over $100 and we probably got about $15 worth of food at their wholesale price. Kind of a spit in the face, one thing we got was an order of mussels for $22 if I remember correctly, mussels cost less than $4 a pound in Maine, we were served 9 mussels. Like I said the food was good but definitely over priced, will not return.
We found some of the dishes to be a bit over salted. Otherwise the 4 course dinner was delicious. We were surprised with new flavors with each dish. Excellent service Food: 4/5
We loved the chef's choice tasting, for our anniversary. The drinks are creative and flavorful. It gets you to think outside the box of what you would usually try. Mind bending!Food: 5/5
Dined at the bar on a Saturday evening where I encountered the most pretentious bartender in existence. Literally was surly all night. Food was Luke warm, over salted, obviously overpriced and mediocre at best. The mussels were meh, the cabbage dumplings were all salt and the specialty cocktails were difficult to finish. You wouldn’t even encounter such pretentiousness in LA or NY but you sure will at this establishment in MAINE.
