Our server Sean was fantastic. The Dealer's Choice, bespoke cocktails were fantastic without breaking your wallet. Food was fresh and incredible! Between the two of us we had two cocktails each, shared an app and had two mains. It was a treat of a night out!
Amazing ambiance, nice decor!! The food was fresh, but the size of oysters were small for that price. Highly recommend the duck dish for main course. Friendly service. 100% worth the visit and definitely come back
Super cool bird themed decor and art. Server was a great mix of attentive and aloof, meaning we didn't feel bombarded. Food was great and drinks were unique! Accessible washroom is available on the first floor, but the doorway might be a bit difficult to pass through for those requiring the use of a chair, due to the angle. Vegetarian options are few, as many of the meat are obscure or fancy dishes. Certainly upscale for the market, but very good.
Excellent food, with top notch service. The menu is higher in price than average restaurant in Ottawa, but average compared to the restaurants in the market. The bird theme inside is very welcoming. Food is excellent! Great selection of wine, but not enough selection in beers.
My husband and I ate at Starling for the first time. We both had different brunch items. We both loved our meals, it was delicious. We ate every crumb off our plates! Couldn't say enough good things about the food. The atmosphere was also very nice and the service was great. We will definitely go back to try the dinner menu.
We came here for Saturday brunch as a group of 6. The service was excellent but quality of the food and cocktails was average despite being pricier than other places in the byward market. Love the bird theme and interior decor
I had the good fortune to be invited to a dinner catered by the amazing culinary staff of Starling where we enjoyed, a signature cocktail and a charcuterie board that was the most beautiful and delicious I have ever had and I have had and made a lot of charcuterie boards!, followed by a 3 course meal that was spectacular. The food and service were off the charts and the attention to detail was amazing. All 9 of us are already planning an in-restaurant dinner to be able to experience it all again.
the 1 star is for the delicious drink I had- the pink margarita & the baked Brie appetizer that was shared between my friend and I. Apart from that our experience was very underwhelming and disappointing. To preface, we sat on the side patio which was empty when we arrived around 5:00pm on a Monday night. It took about 10 minutes for someone to greet us and offer us a drink. We had asked for their happy hour menu which we never received. Waters arrived with our cocktails about 15 minutes later and our appetizer arrived about 30 minutes afterwards. Despite our server circulating the patio to check in on other tables, they neglected to check in on us to see how everything was tasting. We sat there with empty water glasses and empty cocktail glasses for well over 20 minutes. We had hoped to try other cocktails and order main dishes but given the lack of service we decided to go elsewhere. A different server had mistaken the table numbers and brought over drinks that weren’t ours, at this point we finally had the opportunity to ask for our bills. Our server dropped our bills off and walked away- didn’t make conversation, didn’t ask how everything was, didn’t even ask if we needed a debit machine. Thankfully we both had cash so we left money on the table and left. For a nicer place with a pricier menu I would have hoped for a lot better service. Mind you, it could have been busy inside and they could have been understaffed but it would have went a long way if our server was transparent about that and let us know- the communication was just not there.
Poor experience. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of food. I ordered the calamari to start and it was so over spiced and salty. It was akin to going to McDonald's and having the fries salted three times. I did not taste one iota of calamari and three others on my table expressed the same thing. My pasta was alright with nothing special to it besides having enough pesto for two dishes. Do not order the steak frit. It is a forty dollar mistake as my fellow dinners experienced. Under seasoned, poor cut of meat, tasted less then worthy homenmade steak, and yet properly cooked. In no world should you have to use a sauce on a steak, ontop of that this sauce was so old it was separated when served. Highly disappointed. Add to insult was that the server was indifferent to our issues and even over charged us for items we did not order. To put it to even more shame was the fact that forced gratuity was placed on half of our bills and there was a ask for more tip. For what you are paying for... go somewhere else until the above issues were solved.
We were excited to try out the new seafood spot. Did not disappoint. Food was good and staff were accommodating. Interested in going back for brunch, jazz nights and comedy days.Food: 5/5
