I'm not sure why this hotel is rated 3.5 Stars this seems to be a five and a must visit for all those will travel to Thunder Bay. The front desk person named Ava deserves five stars just by herself! She was very friendly and easy to speak with also gave clear and precise directions on what to do where to go and what she needed fantastic! The kitchen staff also very friendly very approachable very helpful and very respectful they also deserve 10 out of 10 Stars! The room we booked was very beautiful aesthetically pleasing everything was just fantastic and comfortable and accessible 10 out of 10 as well. Overall zero complaints this is a definite 10 out of 10 would recommend to a family friend or whoever!
Exterior looks are deceiving. The hotel looks decent and updated on the outside but it’s actually old and shabby. It’s also in a very sketchy area with a tiny parking lot that was full, so we had to park across the street. Lots of noise from outside all night. The entire third floor smelled like an outhouse and our bathroom didn’t have a proper door and was not clean at all. We didn’t bother staying for the breakfast due to the unsanitary conditions. Definitely wouldn’t recommend staying here. However, we have no complaints about the staff, because front desk staff were very friendly and welcoming!
Listen, the other reviews of this place are not all exaggerating. The area is SKETCHVILLE and my husband and I decided not to stay due to us being in the middle of moving. If you’re lucky enough to get a spot in their back parking lot I think you would be fine, but we weren’t so lucky and would have had to park in the overflow parking across the street, which was not going to happen based on the location and surroundings. This hotel would really benefit from hiring an overnight security guard for that parking lot and I hope that Best Western would support them in this.nnThat being said, we don’t know how the actual hotel stay would’ve been outside of the poor location, but based on our minimal experience the staff is wonderful. They understood our concerns and gave us a full refund for the room, which they didn’t have to do. Based on other reviews it seems the staff and management at this hotel are doing their best given the location they didn’t choose it, they just work there. I think if we weren’t with our senior dog and hauling so much, we would’ve stuck it out and probably enjoyed the service. It’s just unfortunate that the location feels so insecure.
Would definitely stay here again! Service was great, room was clean aside from some sticky marks on the floor. Sizing of the room was amazing! Location was a bit sketchy, seen what seemed to be a homeless guy on drugs in the parking lot. He didn’t bother us but it sure scared our children and rushed us to go inside it was dark out.
This turned out to be a gem of a hotel!nIt appears to be recently renovated both inside and out.nThe room as well as all of the common areas were all clean, without exception.nThe room prices were very reasonable especially for a Saturday night stay.nThe complimentary continental breakfast was very good.nI would highly recommend this hotel to anyone needing accommodations in Thunder Bay.
