In Edmonton because of the fire evacuations, and found Sunset Reggae Kitchen on Skip The Dishes. Never had Jamaican food before or anything but it looked really tasty and had good reviews. I had the goat curry with rice n peas, and some coleslaw. The best reviews you see for this place doesn't do it justice, it was some of the best food I’ve ever had, period. I’ve seen some reviews saying the portions are small, and I can’t believe anyone would think that, you’ll be STUFFED when you are done. The spice was perfect, the rice was top notch, even the coleslaw, I dunno if it was housemade or not, but even it was really, really great. I just can’t say enough good things. Will be a return customer whenever in the area.
Food took awhile to be made. They said 20mins but it was more like an hour. Restaurant is small and dark but clean. Saltfish and Ackee was delicious but I wish they served it with dumplings over peas and rice. Beef patties were a 3 out of 5. My partner had the oxtail and he said it was really good.
I have to start out this way! Yes my husband and I spent over $100 because we support business always! We bought jerk chicken and pork and also rum cake. Listen up! The chicken and the pork was so flavored right down to the bone it is spicy but not overwhelming, definitely delicious if you are looking for jerk please head over there you will not be disappointed. Also try a slice or two of the rum cake it sure does make its name very clear. Service is good, food is great, the atmosphere is clean and welcoming. You have to eat there! Sunset Reggae Kitchen

Today August 18, 2019 is 1 year anniversary of Sunset Reggae Kitchen They also have 1 year anniversary giveaway that will be drawn on August 23. So head to their instagram account @sunset_reggae_kitchen_official to participate. The restaurant set up isn't very common in Edmonton where the back part of a house is a dining area. As we walked in, we were happy to see the crowds mostly Jamaican descendants inside . Not only friendly customers but , the owner was really nice. Btw, we knew nothing about the giveaway draw until we sat down and started talking with the people inside. One customer was talking to us and reassured this place has the best Jamaican foods in town as he goes to Jamaica once a year. We ordered 2 meat combo goat curry and oxtail stew and goat curry roti. The goat curry isn’t wrapped into roti like I used to get in Winnipeg but it’s not a big deal. Both goat and oxtail were fell off the bone. I even ate some of the oxtail bones because they were so tender. The goat curry taste was surprised me! Tasted very similar to Indonesian goat curry that I used to have back home. The oxtail stew had a hint of pimento all spice which is very common to be used in Jamaica cooking. All I can say, cooked the foods from her heart. There is love in each food that she cooks I'm looking forward to try their fish dishes as they have to be pre-ordered.
Went in for lunch after recommended by someone who went on a Thursday and was charged $17 for the same dish I ordered the next day, on a Friday, and for which I was charged $27 and was told because it was "the lunch menu". Food is good but small portion and no salad or dumpling included. Plantains are an extra charge. Irie Foods has same dishes with extras for $10 less.
My husband loves Jamaican food so decided to try this restaurant. He had jerk chicken with potatoes and I had chicken curry. Two meat patties too. We had to wait almost an hour "for the potatoes to be cooked from scratch", but in the meantime 5 different customers came in to collect their orders. Obviously it's best to phone ahead your order. He was disappointed with the jerk chicken and left most of the potatoes. While I enjoyed the chicken curry with rice, I wasn't keen on some bones and grissle that was in it. The meat patties were not good as they had been in the warming display too long and were dried out and not much meat inside them. Was a very expensive first try at this restaurant and doubt if we will return. A shame after reading such positive reviews.
Went in on a Tuesday evening for a supper treat to myself. Met with a smile and a pleasant hello. Ordered some goat roti... great seasoning and thick rich sauce. Rice and peas had a deep flavor and cooked beautifully. What a fantastic meal... I'll definitely be back. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor, wide doors. No stairs.
Delicious food with a great atmosphere. It's so worth the visit.Food: 5/5
The place is clean, and the proprietor is friendly. We called in our takeout order, and it took quite a while for it to be ready. The oxtail was good, the rest jerk chicken, curry goat, roti was ok. The jerk chicken especially had very little meat on the bones. As some other reviews, we found the price high for the small amount of food.
