Enjoyed our first Fish Fry today at Sauce! We were hosted by super staff and the family who owns, cooks, and runs it came to say hello as well. The place is classy and the atmosphere was fresh and welcoming. The food for Good Friday was incredible! We all loved our meals. We tried shark for the first time, all the different types of fish including the steaks and whole fish, and enjoyed the amazing flavours of the sauces on our rice. They also gave huge portions of provisions which included cassava, banana and some others. We left happy, full, and so satisfied. You’ve got to give this place a try. We will definitely be coming back on a day where we can try their meat dishes.
My boyfriend and I discovered Sauce through an article promoting "Feed the soul" dining week and we're so glad we did! It was our first time trying Caribbean cuisine and we really enjoyed it. We ordered a Carib lager, a mango on a stick cocktail and a sorrel. My favourite was the sorrel, which was packed with hibiscus and berry flavours. When it came to mains, we decided on the oxtail and the yurimein. The portions were plentiful and the flavours were well balanced. However, one thing that took us by surprise was that our dishes were not very spicy. We were expecting a bit of a punch in terms of spiciness. The staff were inviting and attentive. The owner came by to thank us for coming at the beginning of our meal and thanked us again as we were leaving, which added a nice personal touch.
We had a fantastic dinner out at Sauce last night! The decor is beautiful and the music was enjoyable--not too loud. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We started with cocktails. I had a pineapple tamarind margarita, which was really interesting, and my partner had the rum passage, which was sweet and went down nicely. Then we had cassava fries with a yummy garlic habanero sauce and cou cou cornmeal sticks with an amazing red sauce. The portions were a reasonable size, not too large, so we still had room for our mains. I got the vegetarian roti platter. The roti had amazing flavour on its own, but the curried chickpeas and potatoes were even better, and the sweet, spicy curry pumpkin was one of the best things I've ever eaten! I packed up most of it to go so that I could still sample the cassava pone for dessert. It was super unique--warm and spiced, with a perfect scoop of vanilla ice cream to tie it all together. I highly recommend this place!!!
Tried Sauce tonight! Everything is top notch here. The vibe and music are awesome and make me feel like I'm in Jamaica. The service is great, and so efficient, water refilled quickly after emptying out. All staff are so friendly and genuinely care about your experience. The food is absolutely delicious! My wife had the oxtail and gave me a piece, it was perfectly spiced and cooked and so flavorful. I had the jerk chicken. Juicy tender chicken, generously spiced with jerk and so tasty, delectable Caribbean rice and light and tasty mixed vegetables as the sides. I also got the hot sauce on the side for extra kick of spice. Was sweet but gave a great kick of spiciness to my jerk chicken and my rice. We were also given some complimentary fried plantains to enjoy and they a total treat. Also, definitely recommend getting desert, my wife had the nutmeg donuts, fluffy and tasty with a mango drizzle that is so yummy. I had the Black Cake, it is to die for!! So happy with the whole experience here!! Will definitely be back!!!
This place is absolutely amazing. From the cod cakes, wings, plantain to the goat curry with roti and cassava cake! Simply delicious. Highly recommend.Food: 5/5
What an awesome experience. Finally the perfect Caribben experience in Edmonton! The space is beautiful, open and inviting. Music is appropriate for the space and just adds to the atmosphere. Above all else the food is amazing!! We shared several plates and nothing dissapointed! Special call outs to the fish cakes which were seasoned perfectly and had just a perfect amount of kick! The roti plate is great, the extras on the side really make the dish, roti shells tasted so fresh and delicious! Capped it off with the chicken, fish and oxtail which all were amazing. Highly recommend to visit this place and try everything on the menu. A staff and owners that care, take the extra step to make your time and experience great, best new restaurant in Edmonton you havent tried yet! Go today!!
As a stranger to Caribbean cuisine, I found myself absolutely in-love with sirloin steak drizzled in their sorrel glaze. It was a take to a traditional red meat favorite of mine that easily surpassed my expectations -- and cooked to perfection! The hospitality was phenomenal, and both of the lovely ladies who looked after my company and I tonight were extraordinarily warm and helpful. To anyone looking for a fantastic alcoholic beverage, I would recommend the Rum Passage without hesitation. Couldn't help but order a refill. Sauce falls into my 'treat myself' category now. Next chance I get to go out to eat, I know where I'm going!
Went to Sauce after hearing about it from a friend. Staff were friendly and inviting and the restaurant is clean and cozy. Prices are fair and portions are ample. I had not tried Caribbean cuisine before but I was looking forward to what they had to offer. I really enjoyed the soup to start and the jerk chicken was spicy and very flavourful. Great night out for friends and family and I hope more people discover it. I will be back for more.
Truly awesome had goat with roti. Wife had cod fish cakes we shared. I was in heaven the the roti was soft and hands down the best I ever have eaten. The tamarind sauce with salt cakes was perfectly spiced. I will definitely return and take my Trini father-in- law a dish from this fabulous restaurant soon.
Beautiful dining experience in every respect. Bold, rich, exciting flavors. The most important feature of the food is that the heat and spice are balanced very nicely. For example, the Jerk Chicken is fantastic, and won't blow your head off and ravage your stomach like some places. The fried chicken as pictured below is crisp, sumptuously seasoned, moist, tender but not at all greasy. Also had the Casava fries, and wouldn't let them take the sauce it comes with, because I wanted to dip everything in it!! Located in the old Famoso space at Christy's Corner, everything is renovated top to bottom and looks, smells and feels fresh and new. Our server was very polite, courteous and attentive. Met the owner, head chef and saw one of the chef's carefully plating with serious focus and precision. This is a caring family business but everyone in the staff cares about your satisfaction from Mother to errand person. Great music, wall art and the overall warming vibe is just what we needed on a cold blustery snowy night. Will be back again and again. Excited about seeing some of the live Friday-Saturday evening entertainment next time!
