Went for a late night snack with friends and overall had a good experience! Service was friendly and prompt, prices were reasonable, and they had a wide selection of desserts and also savoury foods to choose from. It was a little disappointing because they were out of a lot of things and so we had to switch up our order a few times. We came later in the night though so it might be better if you went earlier in the day! The mango sago is too notch and I highly recommend the matcha shaved ice. The stewed pear with white fungus and Logan fruit was also quite good.
The cheesy curry beef rice was good. The shaved ice, even better, and there was a lot of it! First time here and will try again. As with most establishments with non local staff, communication might be an issue. I can recommend.
Cozy little dessert cafe among a handful of other shops tucked inside the main floor of a newer residential condo. Sugar Marmalade's menu offers a nice selection of popular East Asian desserts & snacks. The prices are a little high for the portion/preparation/ingredients. It was chilly inside when we were there in January -- not sure if the lobby-level heat was off or what, but we couldn't sit comfortably without our winter jackets on and that certainly took a bit of pleasure away from the overall experience.
I wanted to try something different, a different cuisine. Was scrolling through the menu and came across the marshmallow toast, at first I thought, oh just marshmallows on bread, but the price was $8.61 plus tax = $9.73 so I thought no it must be more that just that for that price! I absolutely love marshmallows so I went ahead and bought it as well as the cheesy baked curried chicken. Order came and lo and behold it really was just marshmallow on bread! A bag of marshmallows are $1 and bread is $3, the item itself cost no more than $0.50, I would've been willing to spend $3 for it, it is wayyy overpriced. The bread was dry so I only hate the 6 pieces of marshmallows. The cheesy baked dish was for around $16.50 after tax, the serving size was very small for the price. Not much tasty either. Lacks flavor. I really tried to find something positive to say but I couldnt. I gave 2 stars instead of one because maybe it's just that I'm not used to the cuisine. Nonetheless the items were overpriced and not tasty.
The customer service is absolutely trash here. The guy who served us barely communicated with us. When I asked for a modification in my order, to replace my taro with grass jelly, the man said he had to "ask his manager." This man went into the back for 2 SECONDS and came back and said his manager said no. He took our order and as he was walking back in his SLIPPERS he was picking his nose while serving food. Mans were skating up in this restaurant because it was so slippery. When we got our food, the rice was uncooked and the tapioca in our bubble tea was mushy and not cooked well. He called a girl from the back to talk to us and she said she did not know and would talk to her boss. But she was supposed to be the "manager"???? Sorry??? When we asked them to not charge us for the bad food, they laughed and started talking in Mandarin in front of us. That is rude and inappropriate. In addition, they overcharged one of our meals but we left because we could not handle it because we were simply just DISGUSTED.
Very unique desserts and a huge selection to choose from... Good place to have a date or hang out with a small group of friends; Recommend BG1 or BG9 on the menu if you are there for the first time. Good way to test your individual taste palette. I read alot of low scored reviews on their food menu, I can’t really comment on that, but desserts are definitely good. Note: Their shaved ice items are only available in the summer.
Good place to come for a quick bite. I like their snacks but their dessert is just not for me. I ordered a meal before but it's just horrible. It's also pricey here.
Nice place to check out, found the sit-down style refreshing as it's in such a tiny place. Kimchi Fries- We loved the kimchi and wished their was more than that because of the price, but we found the fries a little too oily, they must have just put some type of oil to flavour the fries to it could've been just that. Creamsicle Cheesecake- Is pretty good, coming from someone who isn't too fond of creamsicles. Oreo Coffee Milk Shake - Yes yes yes, this was great. It's kinda like an Oreo iced capp, but is sooo much more creamy and satisfying! They were out of the Chocolate Bubble Waffles when we went, so will have to go again LOL.
This is definitely a dessert place and not a place you should go to if you want to eat an actual meal. They have a very limited selection of entrees and the portions are small for the price you pay. I'd suggest going up one flight of stairs to Foodie Fruitie to get more for your buck. That being said, I haven't tried any of the desserts yet and hope to in the future. When I do, I will update this review.
Food was served quickly and tasted amazing. I got the mango supreme. The fruit was very fresh and the whole experience was great.
