Story

At Stow Kent Animal Hospital and Portage Animal Clinic, we know how much pets mean to our clients. Pets are a vital part of the family and they bring joy to our lives. When they hurt, we hurt with them. Since we first opened our doors in 1967, we have strived to provide quality veterinary care in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

We offer many services to meet the healthcare needs of dogs, cats, birds, small animals, pocket pets, reptiles and much more. On top of preventative healthcare we also offer surgery, ultrasound, digital X-ray, endoscopy, diagnostic imaging, full hospitalization services, end of life services and chemotherapy treatments. We understand the busy schedules and needs of our clients and offer convenient evening and weekend hours as well as extended payment options for your pets care.

Thank you for the quality care you've given all of my dogs. You took exceptional care of my old girl recently during her dental. Her abscessed tooth certainly wasn't feeling the best when she got in there, but within of few days of her cleaning and teeth removal she was back to her sassy self. Thanks for all you do! My old dog had to have 14 teeth removed. I was able to make the appointment quickly, the price for the dental and removal was in a reasonable range and I was contacted a few times during the day to give me updates on how she was doing. We also did the geriatric bloodwork which is also VERY reasonably priced and was given a call to discuss any out of range results. The office can be a little hectic at times (shows you how popular they are as a clinic), but they've gladly allowed people to wait in the car and notify when it's their turn. A great service if the car is more comfortable for you and your pet. Thanks!

This is an amazing veterinarian hospital. They have helped me and my animals neumerous times. Yes they are pricey at times but you do get what you pay for. They are compassionate, understanding, Willing to listen and give you multiple options to consider. They offer payment plans and Thankfully they accept Care credit as well. Can't say enough great things about this vet from the front office to the back techs to the vet's themselves. 👍

Wonderful place. Super nice and knowledge staff. One of a tiny few that take emergency appointments. So kind to me when I had to bring my cat in and ended up have to euthanize him. Have since brought my other two to have routine check-up here and they are great. There is usually a wait but I think that's because they try to fit in emergencies and they take thier time. It's so worth it I'm never going anywhere else!

I can't begin to explain how much I love Stow Kent; especially Dr. Carlson. I was just there with both of my dogs for their full annual wellness checks. They received boosters, heart worm checks, blood work, stool and urine samples, etc. The whole nine yards. Within 24 hours of our appointment Wednesday night, we have all test results. A little bit of background: I have a 3.5 year-old male golden doodle and a 1.5 year old female teddy bear. The doodle has struggled with various health problems and is very particular about people touching his hind quarters, nails, etc. He's my problem child. Dr. Carlson gets on his hands and knees with my doodle and shows him so much affection. Besides our regular groomer, he's the only one that my doodle trusts. He's even excited to see Dr. Carlson, despite knowing he's getting a thermometer where the sun don't shine (his least favorite). So long as I live in NE OH, we will be loyal patients of Stow Kent and Dr. Carlson. Thank you for taking care of my hairy children!

I called in advance to schedule an appointment as well as figure out all the costs to bring in my gecko just for a wellness check as it was my first lizard and I wanted to make sure I had a nice healthy gecko. The vet gave me lots of useful information and then without asking if it would be okay, went into lots of other information that had charges for going over it such as husbandry, which I had already known from my research prior to obtaining my pet. They ended up charging me an extra $75 from the price I was given on the phone simply for telling me things I'd already known and without asking or informing me that there would be an extra charge for the information I never requested. As a teenager who was responsible for paying the bill myself, as it is my personal pet, and just barely started into my first job, it did actually take a hit on my bank account as I only had a few hundred at the time. None of the extra $75 was for medication or anything they had given besides the information and it was quite embarrassing to find out in front of the large group of people that I'd been charged a considerable amount more than I'd bargained for and how the staff at the time dealt with it when I explained the situation.
