Definitely a unique dining experience for Edmonton. We tried 5 dishes. The sablefish and the chicken were the standouts. Very flavourful and highly recommended. The flat bread with nduja was enjoyable as well. I did find the fennel salad to be a bit too acidic but my spouse enjoyed it. The heirloom tomato dish, while exceptionally tasty, was not heirloom tomatoes. Minor but would’ve appreciated the heads up on the substation. Cocktails were great, just wish they had a couple more to pick from. I would recommend sitting at the kitchen counter as it would be fun to watch the chef prepare all the dishes. Menu on their website is not current so I’m including pics of the current menu.
Honestly one of the best dining experiences I’ve have in Edmonton in a long time. Service was outstanding. Food all came out with unique plating and ingredients that fit together. Plums tomato’s and stracietella cheese!? Ummm YES!. We couldn’t choose a favourite as everything we had was great. For some items with the flatbread be prepared to eat with your hands, but they also had hand sanitizer spray at each table. Everything had a bit of a Smokey flavour but not at all overbearing and hit the spot on every mark. The passionfruit dessert is a must! We will definitely be back!
One of the Best restaurant in the city. Everything was superb from service to food. We tried their Flat Bread - Nduja - Soured Cream, Smoked eggplant with nuts and berries as well as their Charcoal chicken with cream sauce. Everything was delicious especially the chicken. It was probably the best chicken i have ever had. Also tried their dessert and it was superb as well. I highly recommend Smoky bear its a must go in Edmonton.
The food is unique and delicious! They have a great selection of wine to pair with food. My favorite was their pork chop and the eggplant! Also kinda weird but I love their music playlist Biggie, Tupac, Mobb Deep, OutKast, Rage against the machine…etc. Classic.
amazing food, service, & great selections of wine, local beer, & yummy cocktails. open kitchen concept so you can see the chefs work their magic. love the decor & the atmosphere!
Interesting dining experience, dined in with a small group for their NYE tasting menu. I typically expect small portion sizes for ‘fine dining’ experiences but the portions here were much smaller than I’ve ever experienced - every two people received just a single plate for each dish rather than each individual receiving their own plate - the portion definitely seemed more appropriate for just one person - one dish was a dip with just a single piece of grilled bread for the couples to split and share - we wondered how the dish would have been plated for single diner - would they receive half a piece of bread? The final dish of the set menu was a steak - I typically expect the entree to stand out in a set menu but this was the toughest, chewiest steak I have ever had. There were a couple of unique, tasty dishes, so I think there is potential, but in my opinion, this was definitely not a fine dining experience - though it did come with a fine dining price tag.
Really delicious. Definitely one of the more interesting dining experiences in Edmonton. We enjoyed *everything* we ordered but the beef tartare was really great. The wine list is fantastic. We travel a lot and this is Vancouver/Toronto/Montreal-level food.
Finally got the chance to try out Smokey bear, and what a treat it was. The service was very good, and the food was spectacular! Every dish that we ordered outdid the previous. We were very surprised by the sizes of portions for a fine dining restaurant, much larger than expected. The flavor was very good on everything, and having food cooked over the open fire is always special. We will definitely be back. Do yourself a favour and try out this gem!
Other then the confusing clientele and their interesting ratings I found this to be an amazing experience. Having been lucky enough to dine at the best restaurants across Canada, this isn't an experience about having the best steak, or the best ricotta. This is about having an array of interesting and amazing flavours in course, following each other with each appealing to the last. A true social experience, you actually have time to visit and enjoy each others company in between. Starting with one dish and following each in succession. We had Salmon Rillette which was served with hearty crackers. Chef Lazer's Ricotta - an amazing bread with a very interesting explosion of flavours to top it. Belgium Endive - an array of BC Berries. Lobster Knuckle, by far the best lobster I've ever had in a shell sauce. A beet dish, which came with a sauce I wish I could jar and take home. Alberta Beef, a peppery delight. Finally Cranberry Curd, WOW, just wow. My mouth was watering with this amazing dish even though I was pleasantly full. Definitely try this, but don't expect a regular dining experience. If you want the best steak in Edmonton, go to The Chop. If you want a truly unique dining experience with an explosion of interesting and amazing flavours, take it in!
If you find this helpful, give it a thumbs up! Customer WiFi: Washrooms: yes Power outlets: no Pet friendly: no Parking: paid Street Food/Drinks: the food was very good. My top recommendations would have to be the salmon and pork chop for the balance in flavor in each of the dishes while still being unique and holding true to the flavor of the protein. Most impressive was the pork chop which was cook to a very nice medium over a open fire not an easy feat. I did not really care for the oysters at all out of all the dishes. The sauce paired with them completely overpowered the dish and you could not taste the oysters at all. Service: we sat at the "chefs table" and it wasn't too busy so each dish was described to us as it was presented. We never had empty dishes in front of us for long and they topped off our waters whenever they came by. Fantastic hospitality. Atmosphere: very cozy and dim lit. Open kitchen and you can see everything is cooked over an open wood fire. If you found this helpful, let me know by leaving a thumbs up!
