I was in the area and looking for a huge dinner. Found this restaurant's menu with very affordable pricing. I didn't expect the portion to be that big when I ordered the Mizo ramen. The bowl has a chunk of pork belly, some sprout-y crunch, soup, half an egg and the noodle. I had thought I'd need a takeout box when I first saw the bowl but I finished it in no time. It was when I was almost done with the bowl that I noticed the interior of the place had a beautiful cherry blossom tree replica inside. I hadn't realized that dessert was part of the dish and the ice cream was so very good. It had a strong fruity flavour and I asked the service person what it was and I thought he said 'Tiger' something. Later, I googled to figure it was a Tiger Tail - a flavour I've never had before.
I didn't think I would find an authentic Japanese restaurant in Calgary, but here it is! Hats off to the chef, both my partner and I enjoyed every single thing we had. We tried hot sake for the first time and it was suprisingly good! Plus, we had a nice surprise at the end: free ice cream. Great value for money, will definitely keep coming back for more. I recommend this to anyone who wants authentic Japanese food. PS. Do NOT go to Kinjo or Tokyo Street Market if you don't want to waste your money.
Awesome ramen spot. Prices were very reasonable, lots of noodles, pork, veggies and broth provided. Ramen was also full of flavour and had us wanting more. Plus the interior was very beautiful and cozy.
We decided to try out this place for lunch as I wanted ramen, and they have good reviews. The gyoza was interesting, as it was pan fried with a thin batter so they stuck together with a crispy skin when cooked. The sashimi was not great. It was cut thin and into different shapes and sizes. I found the broth for my ramen on the salty side and lacked depth, which was disappointing. There were only two staff running the restaurant. Considering how small the place is and how few tables there are, service was non-existent, and we had to constantly wave the waiter over as he liked to be on his phone. Prices are lower compared to other ramen restaurants though, which is a plus. I would rate them 2.5 stars, and based on our experience, we would rather go elsewhere instead.
We went to Shimizu Kitchen on a cold Sunday night for a dose of ramen. They got few tables >10 but we were seated right away. I ordered a Tantanmen, Katsu ala carte for sharing while my partner opted for a Tonkotsu ramen. The broth were rich and tasty, chasu were decent and tamago were on point. The katsu was really crispy on the outside but juicy in the inside, its sauce was not too overpowering. We enjoyed our dinner and would come back to try more items on their menu. The staff were friendly and attentive. PRO: prices are very reasonable for good food! Con: limited parking & cleanliness needs to be improved.
We had the Chili Gomo, Tantanmen, and a side of gyoza. Both were very flavourful. The Tantanmen was quite spicy and both were served steaming hot. The portions of noodle is quite large but only a single slice of meat and overall a very good value for the price. There was an option to have the gyoza pan fried or deep fried. We went with pan fried and they were decent. The lunch was finished off with a scoop of strawberry ice cream which was a perfect contrast to the spicy ramen. Parking in back is very limited with all of the other busineses in the area.
The pork slices were really good and the egg was well made. The soup was tasty. Could have used more ingredients other than just asian lettuce and some veggies but their ramen is very reasonably priced. The deep fried gyoza were not my liking, not a whole lot of flavor. They only have several tables so without a reservation you may not get seated or have to wait. The server was nice enough to give us a table after a while when one of the resos did not show up.
Truthfully the best ramen I've had in a very long time. Walked in to a quaint decor, and who wouldn't want to dine under the cherry blossoms?? The services was beyond friendly and preemptive. The food was phenomenal, and incredibly affordable. I wasnt expecitng things this good for this cheap. It was warm, and filling, and soothing to the soul. Parking is behind it. 110/10, you need to go.
Great place for Ramen, one of my favorites in Calgary, I've tried about half of their menu so far and the food is outstanding. The staff is very kind and you can see the passion they have for their food! Can't recommend enough.
We visited for lunch time, they have ramen, rice bowls and Japanese katsu set etc. we tried gyoza, Tantan men and shrimp rice bowl. The ramen was really good, a little spicy and savory, very flavorful broth with thin noodle. The noodle did not get too soft or soggy even though it was thin noodle, and the potion size was perfect! Their cha shiu was think and a bit charred for more flavor. The raw shrimp don was also really good, it came with 5 large shrimps, they removed heads and served with bite sized tails, which I liked because head has more flavor. The don came with miso soup. All the lunch menu was priced reasonably, they gave us an ice cream for dessert, I’m happy with their service! we will definitely visit again.
