My favourite ramen spot in Calgary. Great prices, excellent customer service and fantastic food especially the ramen. APPETIZERS: I have tried the Chicken Karaage, the Katsu Curry Don and Gyoza. All of them are worth the price in terms of quantity, presented very well and packed with a lot of flavours. The Karaage is cooked thoroughly, seasoned well, and great by itself or with the ramen. With the Gyoza, you get five pieces that are good in size, and they also taste great with or without the sauce. Finally, the Curry Don is very good and is reminiscent of Indian curries I have had in the past. Honestly, if you are not too hungry, that could be a meal itself. FOOD: You can't go wrong with any option with the ramen, but I love the Hell's Chilli Ramen. The spice on it is excellent and doesn't take away the taste, the chashu is cooked very well, and the combination of the different ingredients really brings out the overall flavour. You wouldn't think so about the Boom Boom Ramen, but the tomato flavour works great. It reminds me of a soup, but it tasted great with all the other ramen components once again. I would definitely recommend others to try!
The exterior does not define the food at all food being surprisingly good. Although interior design is ok - simple. Ramen here ranges from $12-13 with side dishes of $6-7. The ramen is very flavourful with good noodles not too hard or soft although I wished it was a little bit more chewy. The broth has a very good flavour to it without it being overly salty. The toppings are ok - a little lacking with meat and greens. Lots of seating here. Service was good and quick. Side dish of the curry chicken Katsu don is worthwhile to have. As random as it is - note the style of chopsticks they use here - really neat and useful for ramen purposes.
Very cozy spot. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. We had the hell's chili and the tomato chili ramen. They both were incredible. Looked similar but tasted different. Neither too spicy. Would definitely go again.
Ordered the Boom Boom Ramen, it was really good. My friend got the Katsu Curry Don and he said it was also very flavorful. Bonus mention on their service as well as their affordable pricing but I also dig their interior. Would be glad to come back to try their other items!
We were in the neighborhood and stopped into Boom Boom for lunch. There were no other customers, so we got seated right away. The staff was very friendly and attentive; we were greeted by each of the staff members. The restaurant was very clean and bright with lots of seating options. We ordered green tea, expecting it to come in a pot, however we were each given a small coffee mug, only 3/4 full of hot water. The tea itself was from Britain, not Japan, which was also disappointing. We each ordered tonkotsu ramen. It was well presented, but very small portions. The broth was flavourful but very greasy, which in turn made the noodles greasy. The noodles were well cooked and had good bite to them. The seasoned egg was also very good and the yolk was not runny. My husband opted to add extra pork to his ramen. It was $3.50 for extra chasu, which turned out to be only one additional small, thin piece. I typically like to substitute the pork for chicken in my ramen, however they did not have any chicken on the menu or available for substitutions. This really surprised me, as it seems they have changed their name to "Chicking"? Overall, it was a unique spot and we are glad we tried it, but we both agreed we wouldn't return.
We went here when Boom Boom ramen operating. Thought we'd give it a try with the new management. The staff is welcoming and very friendly. The ramen is great but I always keep it safe by trying the flavours I know. We had the Tonkutsu Soyu Ramen and the Hell's Chilli ramen. The ramen was great the broth was flavourful. The Hell's Chili needs some work to make it a good ramen. The Chashu may need a little more time on the grill before serving. Hoping they are mindful of that. Overall, I hope to go back in the future and hope to see new flavours of ramen there. Thanks for today!
Amazing ramen and great prices! Portions were very generous and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The Hell's chili was perfect! Noodles were perfectly cooked and the broth was spicy, yet did not overwhelm the other flavours. Definitely will be coming back again!
Recently reopened as Chickingyyc with the same recipes as the old Boom Boom Ramen restaurant but under new management and a new name. Food was as good as before. The room is a little cramped though. Service was good and the new owner visited our table to make sure that everything was fine.
Not bad, but it did not meet my expectations as this was the second time that I went and I remember my first experience being a lot better. The noodle texture was good, but there weren’t many things to go with the noodles. The pork was way too fatty, I was expecting chasu and I think they gave us pork belly. Overall not bad, but I’ve had better.
Such great value for the price. 11$ Ramen! I had the spicy vegan Ramen. With an Asahi pint of beer and tip it was $25! Great spot for yummy cheap eats. Affordable. Super quick service too.
