Seine Boat Inn

About

Over the water shoreside quaint hotel in a beautiful and historic location. Wildlife and culture right on the doorstep.

Story

Originally constructed in the mid-1940s as a dry goods store, the building was located next to the Alert Bay salmon cannery, which was at the time was the largest on the British Columbia coast between Vancouver and Alaska.Today we have restored and renovated the old building to its present incarnation as a comfortable and cozy Inn. Set over the shore, the ocean surf laps right under your feet!

We boast some of the most beautiful wildlife in all of north America with Orca that can be seen right on our doorstep. We have an array of dolphins, porpoise, whales, fish, sea lions and more, and that's just the ocean. We have a flourishing supply of bald eagles, hummingbirds, woodpeckers the list goes on. The trails on the island make fantastic walks or biking with no bears, wolves, cougars or dangerous animals you can enjoy your walk relaxed.

All rooms at The Seine Boat Inn feature fine, detailed use of recycled and restored wood, molded with modern amenities, such as full or semi-kitchenettes and ensuite bathrooms. The rooms are named after a few of the many seine boats, for whom Alert Bay was home port. Cable tv, internet access and laundry services are all complimentary.

We are proud of our indigenous culture. Alert Bay (Yalis) was originally discovered by Europeans in the early 1700s. They were welcomed here by our First Nations peoples, and it didn’t take long for settlers to realize a commercial value in the Island and surrounding areas. Alert Bay is one of the few multicultural communities in Canada where support for each other is strong. First Nations art is everywhere and the the people live in their culture with pride. Visit U'Mista Cultural Centre, Culture Shock, the Kwakwaka’waku Gallery downtown, or take a cultural tour with Sea Wolf Adventures.
One of the islands most significant landmark is The worlds tallest Totem pole which can be found up by the Namgis Bighouse where all the famous Potlatch Ceremonies of the community are held.

There are many different ways to access the Island ~ bring your own car, or rent one, travel by Greyhound bus or taxi to Port McNeill and the BC Ferry terminal. It isn't necessary to drive onto the Island as walking and biking are our favourite forms of transport. The ferry dock in Alert Bay is a three minute walk from the Seine Boat Inn. Although, if necessary, the BC Ferry that sails here 6 times per day from Port McNeill can accomodate 25+ cars per sailing. For instance, International Travellers, once arrived in Vancouver or Victoria, can either rent a car, or hop on a scheduled Greyhound bus to Port McNeill, or schedule a commuter flight to Port Hardy, and rent a car or taxi to Port McNeill, or reserve a Seaplane directly to Cormorant Island. The choice is up to you, depending on your need to explore.

We hope to be welcoming you shortly.

The Seine Boat Inn provided a delightful two-night stay. Located within an easy walk of both the ferry dock and most of Alert Bay's amenities, this owner-run inn provides guests with the best West Coast experience. The rooms are cozy small but well laid out and comfortable with water/harbour views on both sides. The staff is cheerful and helpful, whether that's letting you know when the store is closing or providing an extra coffee filter for the room.nnIf you want to spend some time unwinding in this historic village, I can't recommend them highly enough.
What a lovely place. Peter the door man is a man of many talents, and so kind. Thank you Peter!nColin the owner was so welcoming and I got to pour over his historic photo collection as I searched for record of my grandmother’s connection with the island. Such good people..nnRoom was fabulous, extremely clean comfortable AND cute. Top it off, the whales were spouting air at 1 in the morning. Was giddy as heck!nnThank you for welcoming me, it really meant the world to me.
We had a wonderful stay at Seine Boat Inn. The rooms were so unique, it felt like we were staying on a boat.nnThe owner, Colin, was very accommodating and friendly. Same for Peter at the front desk. They allowed us a late checkout to wait for the ferry which we appreciated!
Alert Bay and the Seine Boat Inn were excellent. A great hotel with amazing views. Situated right on the strip and close to everything you can possibly need within a few short steps you'll find restaurants, a drugstore, food shopping, liquor store and more. A quiet, peaceful amazing little town, indigenous culture, eagles, humpbacks, porpoises, sea lions, and orcas. We saw humpbacks from our window! The place was clean, comfortable and amazing. Colin and Peter are great hosts and we hope to be back again soon. Thanks!
Rob and I stayed here just recently. The Seine Boat Inn took our breath away. Very clean rooms the housekeeper hats off to you thank you.The bed so comfortable just like home. The owner very pleasant to talk to. The garden around the deck looks beautiful. Very peaceful place to stay right over the water. The village of Alert Bay people are very pleasant to talk to. Our four days there wasn't enough. We definitely will go again. If never been put on your bucket list you will not be sorry.
