It’s truly unfortunate because the staff at this grocery store are friendly, helpful, and consistently provide great customer service. However, the recent price increases—particularly around the New Year—have turned this store into one of the most expensive options in the area. This pricing strategy feels exploitative and leaves customers feeling taken advantage of, especially when the cost of living is already so high.nnMany Canadians are voicing similar concerns. According to news reports and consumer advocacy groups, grocery prices across the country have been rising faster than the rate of inflation, prompting the Competition Bureau of Canada to launch inquiries into potential price-gouging practices. Numerous social media discussions and local community forums echo the same frustration: families are having trouble affording basic essentials, and these disproportionate price hikes feel predatory rather than market-driven.nnGiven these realities, there is growing support for some form of regulation over grocery prices in Canada. While market forces can play a role in setting prices, the perception that large grocery chains are making record profits at the expense of everyday consumers has led many to question whether stricter oversight is necessary. With the store’s apparent strategy of maximizing profits during a time of economic stress, it’s hard not to wonder if more stringent consumer protection measures are needed—both to keep prices in check and to maintain public trust in essential services like grocery shopping.nnOverall, the staff do an amazing job and deserve praise, but the company’s aggressive pricing approach is making it increasingly hard for many Canadians to shop without breaking the bank. The situation underscores a much larger issue nationwide: without proper guidelines or competition, essential goods risk becoming unaffordable, and that’s a burden no community should have to bear.
Pros: clean store, meat section employees are friendly and greet customers.nCons: during the middle of the day there are only 1 or 2 tills open and lines build up fast, and there is usually no employee at customer service. I notice that with the lack of staff lately, the cashiers get easily stressed and are not as friendly as in prior years.nI wish they would install self checkout stations to shorten the wait time. I notice minimal lineup issues at the Save On locations with this, and the shopping experience is more smooth there.
This is a friendly advice to the manager: besides being a very good store, having nice people working on and always clean and organized it is the second time I feelt observed/judged while checking out my groceries.nnCashiers specially from the night shift need further training on what is appropriate to say to costumers and what isn't.nnTwo of the last times I was on this store I had an episode at checkout where the cashiers were noticing and commenting on what I was buying.nnThe first time, a women cashier noticed I bought a specific item and said I should get another one because it's better. Which is okay, but still I would rather have them not notice what I'm getting or not.nnThe second time, which was totally inappropriate was the other cashier man commented that what I was buying is trash, not good and not healthy. Saying the food I'm buying is poison and he doesn't eat stuff like that just to make clear it was a Western Family brand product. The only reason I didn't cancel my order was because it was already paid for. I felt like my purchase was being judged and felt like my personal choices were invaded. Specially because he also said that in front of other costumers.nnI felt like I'm being judged on what I buy or not in this store and that cashiers don't understand personal space and what is acceptable or not to say to costumers. I'm no longer comfortable buying in this store and will be going to the 6th street store instead if I need to go to a save on foods.nnPlease invest in self checkout or training so cashiers know what's polite to say to people and what's not.
Worst store ever. Layout is awful, as soon as you walk in, you've got 6 cashiers and nowhere to go in easily. It's also a small store with only very few select options. Not a good variety and they never have the items I want. Won't be going back to this store again.
Awesome sushi disappeared...nDeli chicken is scary and waaay over cooked.nChicken wings same flavour with added sauce to disguise and hide this fact. Usually drier than a popcorn fart. Coffee at 22.50 a pound..nWatch the cashier and receipts so you don't get ripped off , If I can find one. If I can't or there is a huge line I just leave .You waste my time I move on.nOther than that, it's just great..
