1 StarnnI am a wedding planner here in the Kootenays, so I work with hotels and accommodations regularly for weddings. Unfortunately, this experience happened to be for my own wedding, which made it even more disappointing.nnWe booked our room well in advance specifically for our wedding day and arranged an early check-in so that myself, my bridal party, hairdressers, and makeup artists would have somewhere to get ready. Our early check-in was confirmed twice over the phone and once again in person.nnWe arrived more than an hour AFTER our requested early check-in time, with our entire bridal party and beauty team, only to be told that our room still wasn't ready. Even worse, no one could give us an answer as to when it actually would be ready.nnOn my wedding day, I ended up having to leave the hotel and shower at a friend's house down the street, then come back to the hotel where my bridal party and I had to have our hair and makeup done in the lobby/business centre.nnAs someone who plans weddings professionally, I understand that hotels are busy and unexpected things happen. But when an early check-in has been confirmed multiple times and the hotel knows the room is being used for a bride to get ready for her wedding, there should either be a room available as promised or, at the very least, some sort of solution offered.nnInstead, we were left scrambling on a day that had already been planned down to the minute.nnIt was incredibly stressful, embarrassing having our professional hair and makeup team working out of a public hotel space, and absolutely not the experience I expected after booking ahead and confirming everything multiple times.nnYour wedding morning is one of those moments you don't get back, and unfortunately, this hotel experience became part of mine for all the wrong reasons.
Obviously ,needs to be refreshed. Rooms are ok, but common areas need to be DEEP CLEANED. ELEVATOR doors are vandalized with scratches and drawings....Hallways ! Elevator ! were not vacuumed during our stay we stayed for 2 days.Previous reviews mentioned the same issue...very dusty common areas.Breakfast is Not free.. Single pane windows you can't open. Rooms were clean, but bedsheets/ pillowcases need replacement ...they smell clean but there's old stains present. Rooms are not ventilated,so there's musty smell....I wish there would be newer style of the windows, so you can open and let fresh air.nI am pretty sure the room attendants are hard working people and there are so much they can do in very little time they have to clean so many rooms, but the management has to hire extra help to CLEAN COMMON AREAS elevator, hallways, lobby, pool areas one's in the while.nRooms are equipped with fridge, microwave, coffee machinecoffee, tea, dishes + utensils. Hotel has working pool and hot tub, which made our stay more enjoyable.nBeautiful flowers outside the main entrance made outdated exterior look more pleasant...nice touch from management!nIf the common areas were more clean and breakfast would be free, I could give it 4 nI gave extra star for very friendly lady at the front desk .
This Castlegar Sandman is one of the best ones we’ve been to. The staff especially the front desk Christina were helpful and friendly. There were complimentary snacks and coffee when we arrived. They were always present When we had any questions. The pool towel towels were stocked, and we didn’t need to ask for anything.nnThe hotel was close to many shops and amenities.nThe beds were comfy and the rooms were thoughtfully prepared. I would recommend to anyone driving through to rest here. You won’t be disappointed.
I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Sandman Hotel in Castlegar, BC. From the moment I arrived, the service was top-notch. I especially want to highlight 'Ruchika' at the front desk—she was so warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful throughout my visit. The room was spotless, comfortable, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Castlegar—it’s truly a 5-star experience!
For Sandman Hotel, this location is actually quite well equipped with a decent pool, hot tub, and even a continental breakfast. Though I'm not quite sure if the breakfast is available for all guests or just the RSVP members or those who pay $7 and something something cents for it. Lots of ample parking and close to pretty much all of the fast food joints you ever could wish for. Very well located and quite clean.
