We were looking for a campground that was quiet with a dark sky to enjoy the annual Perseid meteor shower. We had too many bad experiences with drunk, noisy, obscene campers mindless of families trying to enjoy their stay and expose their children to the outdoors. Unfortunately the rude and crass behavior was emboldened by absent rangers or campground managers. This family campground is quiet and and the owners are welcoming and friendly and made it clear that your enjoyment and relaxation are very important. A 10pm quiet time is made clear to all registrants. We wish we would have discovered Sampson Springs Campground years ago. Thanks for all of your hospitality! ...oh, and the meteors were brilliant against a star-drenched sky! Amazing!

Absolutely horrible. We stayed there over a busy weekend for decorah and rented three litany of tents. We clearly stated the number of people in our group and the number of kids but it seemed like almost instantly he had issue with the number of people we've had. He would stop us constantly when we came in and feed us arbitrary rules that we had some how broken and tell us things were getting out of hand. Eventually it came to the owner telling us that we couldn't have our three cars on site, mind you we have paid for three lots, and we had to park up next by the bathrooms. He told us that he was doing us a favor by renting the lots and that we were taking advantage of his hospitality by using the bathrooms too much. We left early this morning and will never be going back.

We were out for a drive one day and out of curiosity drove through the campground just to check it out. On our way back out we were stopped by a man whom I presume to be the manager or owner of the campground. I said hi to him and he said "can you read?" Taken aback I replied that yes, I could read and he said "that sign says stop at the office". I laughed and said, "I'm sorry I thought it said shop at the office ( there was a garage sale sign at the entrance to the campground)". He very clearly did not believe me and said "we are not like the Decorah Campground where JUST ANYONE can come in". No where was there a sign that said private or do not enter and there was clearly a garage sale sign inviting people in. I was deeply offended, treated extremely rudely and would NEVER camp there and would NEVER recommend it to anyone else. We were clearly not a threat to anyone, drove the recommended 10 mph and did no harm. There is a polite way to tell people they've done something wrong and this gentleman obviously had no idea how to do this.

We go here every year for a week. The owners are wonderful and the campground is very well kept plus the sites have plenty of room. It's just a few minutes away from Decorah and many other fun locations.
