The house is beautiful. The owners are nice and it's cute that their little boy has added his own small touches of artwork throughout the house. By far the most comfortable bed I've been ever slept in. Very nice! I was disappointed in the fact the house is closed off. I get that they live there, but we had heard great things about the garden and people mingling in the common areas when it was under the previous owners. But either way, better than staying in a boring hotel and it's downtown so you can walk to everything.

Agree with Joshua Moe's review below who mentioned the change in owners and the difference in attitude. We stayed under previous owners. OUTSTANDING then. They went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. The NEW owners have closed down most of the home, and, push their weird diet preferences. The attitude is very clear now, "room for rent... you are an outsider and we just want your money." I suspect after the regulars dry up, and their frequently blocked calendar stops drawing guests, the FAKE REVIEWS won't be able to keep them in business. We came BACK to the B&B because of the previous owners and our outstanding experience. We will NOT be back again unless it is sold and managed by someone else.

Very cool house close to downtown and the room was very nice. Here are a few things that could improve the experience: 1. Put a few games, decks of cards, books or puzzles in the common area. Also, leave the doors open all the time. Although the host said the room was open, closed doors made us hesitant to go in. Except for a handful of science magazines and a science book, there was really no reason to go in anyway. 2. Make (or provide) food that is more mainstream. I know the B&B bills itself as serving local and organic food, but I just didn't care for the kale frittata, the healthy muffins or the breakfast casserole with sun dried tomatoes. Sorry. The homemade granola was pretty good. Our best B&B experiences have had great, hearty food and a few snack items (cookies, etc.) available in the common area at other times of the day. 3. The 'Happy Hour' with wine and cheese was nice, but...know what you're serving. And, I'd suggest promoting the local product more. One wine was local, but I can get Cupcake anywhere. Saying you preferred California beers over the local beers seemed out of place. By the way, Decorah's own Toppling Goliath Brewery Dorothy's is an excellent American-style lager that would suit a lot of tastes. 4. Engage the guests. Where are you from? What do you do? What do you plan to do in Decorah? It leads to...conversation, a connection and more. 5. A little info card with basic information would be helpful. How to contact the hosts, checkout time/procedure, where to put the key, where the common areas are, breakfast times, etc. You have a great house, which is a good foundation to build on. A few tweaks and you'll have a great B&B. I hope you find this review is constructive. Good luck.

Beautiful house, very comfortable, and our hosts made us feel very welcome. We especially enjoyed delicious wine and cheese by the fireplace in the evening. We were very pleased we stayed there.

This is a quaint, quiet retreat in Decorah''s historic district. The rooms are tastefully appointed. It is a great place to get away and get a lot of work done or spend quiet time with that special someone.
