Great museum has very nice and extensive exhibits. I went there when they had the wildlife photo-journalism exhibit which was a interesting one. It wasn’t busy whatsoever but I did go on a rainy Sunday around 3:00. Would definitely recommend going. It also seems like there was a third floor exhibit but for some reason it’s closed and I don’t know why. Maybe it will be open sometime in the future.
This is one of the best museums we have visited. It has natural history, art, First People cultural history, and an interactive town/ship/ mine from British colonial history. Really great. Two weeks ago, that section was closed for remodel. I'm hoping it is still as awesome as ever when it reopens.
Great place to visit and learn about the ice age and stuff. They even had a showing of covid portraits which was cool. Likes: it was cheap. $5 per person and it was absolutely worth it. Lots to see and learn. Dislikes: Nothing I can think of
This is such an awesome experience! I enjoyed the Orcas exhibit I loved how they explained things such as climate change, global warming, plastics, saving our mother nature. This touched our hearts. So far, this is the best museum I have ever been in. I will never forget my experience here and will definitely be back again I thank everyone who made this possible, the effort you put into this is very much appreciated. The setup was amazing, everything is interactive and educational. There is also a great collection about indigenous people which are all so inspiring. But, of course the best of all, the natural history of BC. From historical to current records of all living things. Information after information after information, it’s crazyyy but we love it! You can buy tickets online to avoid the line up. But, staff here are so fast so you wouldn’t really feel like you’re waiting.
A well curated museum.A must visit when in Victoria. Right now though only the nature history wing is open and tickets as low as $5 is being charged. Will like to visit when the renovations are over to look at the rest of their fabulous collections.
A fantastic museum! Parts of the exhibits were closed as they were being worked on...so to compensate our admission was only $5 per person!! All of the exhibits were so well done! Especially the animals one, looked so real! Worth a visit when in Victoria!
It was good but not as I expected. Maybe, it's because I was too exhausted of walking a lot in Victoria Island :/ Anyway, below is my research about Royal BC Museum: The Royal British Columbia Museum is a world-renowned museum located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Established in 1886, it is one of the oldest museums in Western Canada and has been preserving and sharing the history and culture of the region for over a century. One of the main highlights of the Royal BC Museum is its First Peoples gallery, which showcases the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest. Visitors can learn about the traditions, beliefs, and way of life of the Haida, Kwakwaka'wakw, Nisga'a, and other First Nations communities through a range of interactive exhibits and artifacts. Another must-see exhibit at the Royal BC Museum is the Natural History gallery, which explores the diverse flora and fauna of the region. From towering trees to tiny insects, visitors can learn about the unique ecosystems of British Columbia and the creatures that call them home. In addition to its permanent exhibits, the Royal BC Museum also hosts a range of temporary exhibitions on a variety of subjects. Past exhibitions have covered topics such as World War I, the history of hockey, and the life and work of famous Canadian painter Emily Carr. Visitors can also explore the museum's archives and research center, which houses a vast collection of documents, photographs, and artifacts related to the history and culture of British Columbia. Researchers and history buffs can spend hours poring over these resources, uncovering new insights into the past. Overall, the Royal BC Museum is a truly exceptional institution that provides a window into the rich history and culture of British Columbia. Whether you're a local resident or a visiting tourist, it is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in learning more about the region.
This is a great place to visit. We have been here many times. However, this time the museum had a limited showing. Only on the second floor. There were three different themes. The dispossession of the Japanese Canadians during the war, Covid 19 effects on the people of BC and the Nature, including the climate change warnings. The story of the sufferings and humiliations of the Japanese Canadian citizens was frank, well documented and cruel. They simply got robbed of their possessions. It is quite sad. You can spend a lot of time here going over the documents and getting depressed. I thank the museum for exposing the story in a way that average Canadians can understand the plight of the Japanese people, some of whom were born in this country. In those days we did not have cameras everywhere and the general public did not know these mistreatments were happening. There were no human rights laws in Canada at that time. The Japanese Canadians fought long and hard to get an apology from Canada. Finally, they received it from Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. The nature part was good too. Very educational. You can always spend more time here too. We did not see the First Nations exhibits. It was closed but I still have those pictures from a previous trip. The museum has an excellent gift shop and the staff is quite helpful.
Good exhibit but some areas are closed. We missed the IMAX as we were on a tight schedule. Kids really enjoyed the aquarium areas.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The exhibits that were there were really well done, engaging and fun to look at. However, the whole 3rd floor being closed really left us disappointed. It was basically 1 floor and a gift shop. What they had was grade A quality though.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
