I did the Tuesday self-guided tour. It's centrally located and free admission... pretty cool to be able to check out the childhood home of BC's most prominent artist.
What a lovely piece of history. The tour was absolutely excellent, the plaques around the garden are thought-provoking and the restoration work is impressive. Loved learning about the Carr family, the home design of the time, and the trappings of colonial society in BC. Highly recommend booking a tour if you’re interested in period interior design, slice-of-life Canadian history and/or art!
A tour you must not miss in Victoria--a highlight of our visit. Pascale was our guide who shared the history of the house and its inhabitants. Through anecdotes, one is able to grasp who Emily Carr was: her humour and way of life. Going on the guided tour really makes a difference. By the end of it, Emily Carr felt more like a distant friend than someone you read about in history.
Loved the place, beautiful house, the artist's and her family's history is so touching. I wish the other place, "the house of all sorts", was also a museum. Wish paintings were exhibited, too.
Wonderful, to see how Emily Carr was inspired; by the beauty of Victoria. The tour guide, Tom; was very informative and friendly. It was a great visit. Definitely recommend it.
Worth it! Pleasant surprise! Kate the site manager gives a very personal yet informative tour. Learned lots of the little details about Emily Carr and her life, and her plucky outlook! They also fit us into the day last minute, speaking to the kindness and enthusiasm of the staff. Can’t wait to see the home fully developed into a community centre, artist-in-residence programme, and historical site.
Loved this booked tour guide by Director, Pascal . She is amazing, so amazing of the wonderful tour of the entire house of Emily Carr. Finally, had the chance to have the tour of the upper floors of the home last several times 2004, 2007, 2018 was not open to the public. So it was very impressed of this tour this time with my partner together his first time it was worth the tour 40 minutes it was amazing! loved the back of the house Trailer and its garden apple trees . Best Tour in Victoria,BC.
Carr house is a true peek into Emily Carr's family home and upbringing. It has been remarkably restored and the staff is uber knowledgable about her life. Whether you are a long time fan or a new admirer this tour is full of magic and history of not only her life but the Jame's Bay area, I highly recommend a visit.
Very low key as museums go. Incredibly cluttered, and tours are self-guided. A must see for Carr fans!
The gardens are beautiful. It is lovely to take your time to look at what hidden plants there are. The couple that take care of the visitors are very organized. There are several rooms full of furniture, drawings and items from the era that Emily Carr lived in. It is so lovely to think she us not forgotten.
